I 'm here ! i had to run to wall world for a tranny funnel, this will be my first Tran. oil change, so i am a little hesitate.Has to be the exact ATF oil(mercon) not mercon V, THEM THE CONTAINER SAID dextron III- mercon, so i was trying to get ready for the job at hand and review some of the ATF post's. Thanks everyone for the help, Need to get the filter, and about 17/18 quarts of MERCON! and some beer for after. will stop by the NAPA FOR FILTER AND OIL.
Good luck on the fluid & filter change. Remember, it is RECOMMENDED that you re-use the OE tranny gasket (so long as it's still in good condition). If the gasket is shot, get a new one from Ford; don't get an aftermarket gasket. If Ford did one thing correctly on the tranny, it's the gasket. Don't over-torque either; just "snug". Give the old filter a "wriggle" back and forth to remove; seat the new one the same way. After you complete the filter & fluid change, start it up, look for leaks (if ok, then) give it a test drive (a few miles s/b fine so long as it goes up and down the gear range). Double-check the tranny fluid level again for accuracy.
And... you're done! Kick back, have a cold one, and revel in a job well done!!!
DS59F100, Thanks for the help will be tackling the job w/in 2weeks, my 250 has 32000 on it although FORD installed anew tranny right around 1500-2000 miles ,i would have to look up the paper work, the pan ...wellit would'ent leak the oilk would form around the lip of the pan in certain areas, i took it back , 1st time i think they replaced the front seal , cannot account for the next time any way they put a Brand new Tranny in from the factory, w/ the green tag and all, not rebuilt , made sure.
