What should I do to get the most out of my F-150? I am considering K&N fuel injector filter kit, Cat Back, and a Superchip. Any recomendations would be great.
i also have a 4.6L. i have AEM breut force intake and a cat back exhaust with no muffler. i am looking into getting a diablo chip. most of the people i talk to say the ford owners lean to the diablo. i am also lookin at headers.
I read that the Diablo allows multiple configurations. You can set it up so that it takes into account headers or intake or whatever. If I make changes to the truck after installing the chip, can I reprogram the chip or do I have to send it back to Diablo to be updated?
WHat would be the best thing to do first? I have given up on ever getting an old mustang to play with, so decided to have some fun with the truck. About all I have done so far was change the stock air filter to a K&N, and the difference was incredible. That got me to thinking about what else I could. But I need to find the best place to start and the best products to use, and then go from there.
I've just started upgrading my truck mainly for towing. Got the K&N FIPK kit and a 2003 version of the superchips 1715 tuner. So far, so good. Need to change the plugs and wires and do the Gibson single exhaust cat back system and should be good to go. Any ideas what to do next short of buying a turbo-diesle F250 and tricking it out? Thanks.

You can find all your answers there IMO. They have the Diablo chip that fits your truck with a scroll list listing your hp/torque gains. Just click on the Diablo chip for all Fords icon. They also have the MAC Intake and AF1 Intake. I own the MAC and it is the cheapest one there is brand new. It works awesome on my truck. Check out my sig for my mods. First 3 I would always do would be chip, intake, exhaust...simple. Any questions?
My Dad has a 98 f-250 4.6. He was disapointed with the power. I installed a 3" cat back exhaust (flowmaster) with tip, sounds cool. I just installed a K&N FIPK genII intake and when he gets back I am installing a Power Chips TBI Spacer. The changes we made had a significant increase in power. About the same as my 99' F-150 5.4, stock. Then we looked at his plugs. He only has 56 K on the truck and they were nasty, changed them and bam mileage and power incresed. I can't wait until we get the TBI Spacer on it. Should improve midrange HP and fuel economy.
As to why Flowmaster? Borla makes a great exhaust system, but they are spendy and I have not found anyone who will say that you will get more umpf from them than anyother brand. A friend who owns a muffler shop here in town sells both and while he would rather sell a guy the more expensive system he regularly recommends the Flowmaster. The Borla does sound great though.

After a few days lurking I'll jump in. Hi my name is David and today I am picking up from a private party my new 2000 F-150 4x2 w/5.4. It's got 47K miles on the clock.
My neighbor is big into trucks and bikes and recommended to me the Airaid intake and the Flowmaster cat back system. Also he is running a chip/programmer but I don't recall the brand or model. I just left the Porsche world last week, sold my very clean 86 Carrera, and this whole intake/K&N deal has me suspicious. In the year's I owned the Carrera and participated on various related BBS, it was common knowledge that K&N (and other intake systems) was totally bogus and only allowed more dirt into the engine. There were many instances where dyno results showed zero improvement in HP or MPG. The findings showed that the stock air induction system on the Carrera were about as good as it got. The only real gains to that platform (3.2 flat 6) were by installing a new exhaust system, which by the way, was illegal in CA.
So now my question. I want the more agressive sound of a cat back exhaust so either way that will go on this weekend. I'm torn on the air induction - actually more concerned about damaging the engine with increased dirt. Seriously, are people only doing this upgrade because it's "standard" or do people have real world examples of a measureable increase in HP and/or MPG? Is the stock induction system really that bad on a F-150? Driving a 5.4 now I am interested in MPG. Finally, I too am curious, whats a TBI spacer?
Thanks everyone and I look forward to participating on this board.
