Regarding the Lariat - Where's the outside temp and compass display show up?...in the 'message center' in the dash?
Also, anyone know exactly what's all in the message center display? The brochures only have a partial list of what it does. I'd like to know what info it displays. not necessarily the warnings about low fuel and so on, but other stuff that you can chose to display if you want to see it.
Is the compass and outside temp gauge in the message center? Or does that info appear somewhere else? The brochure says there's a outside temp reading and a compass with the Lariat.
Recalibrating the compass will give you a chuckle.
If you hold the reset button down too long the message center won't work and you'll have to recalibrate the compass. That requires slowly driving around in a circle several times, away from any metal buildings. I was getting some dizzy looks in the Walmart parking lot.
Wish my FX4 had distance to empty. -Real shame. My BMW & Dodge Ram have it and it's very useful. The Ford's LOW FUEL comes on and stays on with at least 3 gallons left and covers temp and odometer readings with no progressive audible warning. Poor design.

Yea.
Like an idiot I forgot the mileage on the odometer and the mileage on the trip meter are the same number....until you reset them for the first time! I kept trying to reset the odometer instead of the trip meter. I'm not used to having fresh odometers!
I guess if you hold it down longer than 8 seconds, it asks you to recalibrate the compass. Until you recalibrate it, you can't get anything else to display. Helps to read the owner's manual first.
I also thought that the message center and trip reset button would be similar to my other vehicles. Some of them have all kinds of diagnostics that will show on the message center according to sequences of the reset button. Apparently not this one.

You can hit reset and the normal display will come back
