Heater blows cold air...
Hi,
I have a 99 Eddie Bauer Expedition. The heater will only blow cold air. It has the electronic heater and a/c controls.
I checked the heater hoses and both are hot.
I replaced the thermostat and that made no difference.
I ran the self diagnostic on the heater control and only got code '888'
I read a few posts in here that it may be the blend door, but shouldn't that be giving me a code on the diagnostic?
Can the blend door fail and still not give a code? I'm kinda lost on where to go from here guys. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it's kinda cold at the moment and this is the wife's sled.
I also read that the 'pin' fix doesn't particular do anything for the Expedition. Can somebody else confirm that as well?
thanks

Looking at the service manual for my 03, it lists the following as problems:
Insufficient, erratic, or no heat:
I followed the pinpoint tests through testing the heater hoses for heat. The manual says to test the blend door actuator clockwise, then counterclockwise operation. After that it has checking grounds and circuits for resistance.
Insufficient, erratic, or no heat:
- Low engine coolant level.
- Engine overheating.
- Plugged or partially plugged heater core.
- Temperature blend door is binding or stuck.
- A/C electric blend door actuator.
- Incorrect heater control valve operation.
- Heater hose is kinked or binding.

1/ set at 60, it blew hot air
2/ the higher the temperature, the colder the ar
3/ set at 95 it blew marginally cold air (probably outside air)
I was already printing out the hour-long blend door fix. Instead I disconnected my battery for a few and now the thing works like the day I bought it.

I'm experiencing pretty much the same problem with my 1995 F-250. First sign of a problem was the temp control **** was binding when I cranked it toward hot, and wouldn't go all the way to maximum hot position. One day I forced it and ever since then I just get cold air....really cold air as the A/C compressor is engaged in all positions except vent. No matter which mode I set it in, I continue to get refrigerated air and no heat. DUH-uh...
Now, for the weird part. All was working well with the heater and A/C after forcing the temperature ****. I was driving home at night and threw on a turn signal....noticed tail-lights went out on the trailer; turn signal on trailer worked but didn't work on rear of pickup. Got out, checked the trailer plug...no change. Traced the wiring from the female connector on the receiver up to the T-connector on the truck's wiring harness....ahhh...loose connection. Unplugged it and plugged it back in making sure the lock tabs engaged, and everything was A-okay. Had heater on in cab but when I got back in the truck it was ice-cold. And it's been that way since.
I've torn out the glovebox, pulled the radio, and felt the cable and visually checked the arm on the blend door....it seems to cycle fully both ways....what am I missing?
Thanks,
Sambo
