diagnostic codes
I have a 1997 f150 and the code that i have come up with is P1538. The reason that i had it checked is that my number 5 fuse keeps blowing. It controls the cruise control, daytime running lamps, climate control blend door, backup lamps and parking lamp relay. would this code have anything to do with the fuse blowing? It blows when i turn on the heater or the air conditioner? thanks..........Marc

diagnostic codes
DTCs P1518, P1537 and P1538 indicate IMRC is stuck open. DTCs P1512, P1513 and P1519 can indicate IMRC may be stuck closed. DTCs P1516 and P1517 indicate IMRC input error. DTC P1520 indicates IMRC control circuit malfunction.
Possible causes:
Cables improperly routed (binding) or seized.
Damaged/disconnected IMRC housing return springs.
Lever/shaft return stop obstructed/bent.
Lever/shaft wide open stop obstructed/bent.
IMRC lever/shaft stick/bind or disconnected.
IMRC actuator cable/gears seized.

Hi mcoop73 and welcome to FTE
Sorry it took so long for someone to reply.
Fuse 5 is in the circuit for the blend door actuator motor and the heater function selector switch. From the switch power ends up at the A/C compressor clutch. I think the first thing I would try would be to unplug the A/C compressor clutch and see if the fuse still blows. You could have a shorted field coil in the A/C clutch.
Let us know what you find
