today I just finished a 3 gauge full pillar installation from motorhaven (Issopro). Everything went quite well. However I dont think my transmission temp gauge is registering. It never leaves the peg (140degrees). I confident that we have it hooked up right. I have it powered to hot went key on and I have put the sensor in a bung of the transmission just above the pan and ahead of the wiring harness on the drivers side of the tranny( same as others have done on this site). We think we have checked everything and we did notice that when we have the key on when you disconnect the connector plug down by the sensor and then plug it back in the gauge needle will jump up but then immediately return to the peg (140 degrees). I know it is cool here today (mid 40s to 50s) but I did drive it approx 20miles (truck empty) and the needle justs lays on the peg (140). Does anybody out there now what the normal temp for the 2001 7.3 f250 tranny is. Looking for any ideas. Maybe it just takes alot to get it over the 140 minimum.
Thanks In advance
Laudy
It is to cold to register much past 100-120 degrees. My guage starts at 100 degrees and it takes 30 miles before it is up to 110 degrees.
My old truck had the Isspro transmission temp guage that started at 140 degrees and from November to April it never moved.

I too got the 3 combo ISSPRO gauges. Yeah, the tranny gauge stays at 140 at 40*-50* weather. I thought there was something wrong also but I saw it went up a little when driven aggressively. When I had the X dynoed last thursday I saw the needle went up to 170 after 5 pulls. The needle will go up for sure when summer is here.
I to have isspro gauges it takes over 30 miles to get mine off the 100 mark. And it seldem gets over 140. Does any one have trouble with the pyrometer peging out on cold starts like near 0 ? It runs around 600 empty just crusing to abt 1000 up a steep grade also empty.
No I bought the clamp on type and mounted preturbo when the truck starts at real low temps after setting over night I guess you could say it misses any way it shakes an jumps rocks cuts all sorts of shines but this is nothing new it's done it from day one, but the pyrometer jumps up with each skip till it finely pegs out each time it starts skipping now I mashing the pedel it helps it to smooth out quicker.
Seems right that it would never leave the peg. According to the FAQ section in the SD forum normal tranny temps are 40-100* above ambient temps.
My gauge rarely goes over 140*.....only off roading, idling in traffic in 90* + weather, and when driving the truck real hard in the summer. Hottest temps I've seen is 160*.
Hey thanks a million for putting my mind to ease. I thought maybe I had something wrong. I have some buddies that have factory tranny gauges and they said that theirs would move shortly after driving. My take on that is because their gauge is probably set for say maybe 0 to 250 so it should start to move quickly while my issopro would take longer when its low is at140. I'll just drive as normal and wait till summer and see if it moves. P.S. Heatstroke I did not put any teflon tape on the sensor as I realize some other folks had problems with it thanks for the input.
Actually the factory gauge, from what I've gathered, is more of an idiot gauge. It's programmed to run in about the middle of the gauge and not to move until the tranny gets really hot. Two of our trucks have the factory one and it never moves from the middle.....doesn't matter if the truck is empty at 10,000 lbs or fully loaded and towing at a combined weight of 26,000 lbs, it's always right in the middle.
When it's summer here, ambient 100 +, my tranny runs at 180-190.
Just came from Albuquerque at 40 degrees ambient at it took about 1/2 hour to get off the starting100 degree peg and it ran at only 120-140 degrees when warmed up.
In either case, the factory dummy gauge goes to the middle.
I have a triple pod with auto meter gages. The tranny gage starts at 100 and it usally goes only to the 125 to 150 area. My mechanic told me that the trannys run usally in the 140 range so dont expect it to move to much unless its under a load for a good distance.

I am having exactly the same problem with my EGT. My pyro is post turbo. My tranny temp has never been off the peg (140) and I tow a 32ft 5er. The needle does jump when I turn the ignition on.
I'm glad the trans is that way instead of running hot all the time. When I first put my on I drove the truck to work two days and it never moved. I just knew that it wasn't working. On my day off I went to Hickory NC after I had drove about 30 miles I noticed it had moved a very little. Then I got mad at me fer all the times I had got under the truck and checked things out! I changed to Rottela 5W 40 symthetic last week and the coldest it has got is 16 degrees (till this morning it's 8 but I ain't tryed it yet) and the truck has started better and the pyro on startup has only went up to about 9. Now that i said that watch it peg out this morning!!!
