My wife and I bought a used 2003 Expedition XLT w/11,000 oon Dec. 4th of 2003. This vehicle has the EB package but is a XLT. Leather, moonroof, 3rd row, 5.4 engine. We fell in love with it the minute we drove it. Anyway we wanted a DVD package installed so the dealership had it installed. Since that day we have had problem after problem with the vehicle in the shop for repairs to the moonroof. The dealership was and is so unprofessional, in my opinion. We were never offered a loaner and they acted like they didn't care since we already bought it. We were transferred from person to person trying to get answers to what is wrong with the vehicle and we even talked to the owner and he TRANSFERRED us so he wouldn't have to deal with it but he was VERY nice the night we went in to buy. The dealership had the car longer than we did and we still had to make the first payment. We contacted Ford about this and we are still waiting to see what they find out or intend to do. This is our first purchase from a dealership and needless to say it has left a "sour" taste in our mouth.
After saying all that, the problem has always been with the moonroof. After they replaced the whole unit we finally got it back and have been driving it for about a week and a 1/2. We just noticed the other night that when we pulled back the visor to look out the moonroof there was frost on the inside. Not alot but enough to scrape off with my fingers. Is this normal? I sure don't want to have to deal with the dealership again. Any help on this moonroof issue would be soooo appreciated.
Could you list the problems that you reported to the dealer? I have had frost on the inside of my windows moonroof included. If the humidity inside the vehicle is high enough and the temperature outside is below freezing, it will happen.
Thanks for the replies......
The day after we bought the Exp. they installed the DVD package and told us to pick it up cuz it was ready. When I got there I looked at everything and checked the interior and when I opened the moonroof it wouldn't close. They told me to leave it and they would fix it. This was Friday. On Mon. evening they called and said it was fixed. I picked it up and drove to work with it on tues. and one of the guys I work with noticed that the moonroof wasn't sealed all the way on the outside. Of course it started raining and dripping inside so I took it back to the dealership. They had to ship it out to be looked at and called me back the next day and told me to pick it up. They sealed it but I couldn't use it or it would break the seal. They had to make an app. to take it in and have it replaced. The following week we dropped it off and they shipped it out so the moonroof could be replaced. This whole time the dealership never offered us a loaner or any compensation. We got it back 2 days later and drove it about a week before we started to hear a rattling up by the moonroof/DVD system. Took it back and they said that the placed they had to send it to was closed until Jan. 5th(this was Dec 29th) and I needed to drop it off on Mon, Jan 5th. I dropped it off and they gave me a Explorer XLS which is basic but at least they gave me a loaner. I finally got it back on Jan. 7th and have had it so far without any MORE problems.
The moonrood doesn't ever really seal, there is a drainage try surrounding the glass with tubes that run down the side of each vehicle. So, while it may not look like a tight seal it really is.
Given that you have said that they have to send it out to be worked on... I agree with tsdrallyer; find a new dealer. If they aren't capable of performing the work, ditch them.
I'm not sure whether or not you are entitled to a loaner, I think its only true if you have a Lincoln product or if the vehicle has to remain in the shop for more than a day. Read the policy and determine what you are or are not due.
Trying to find what I need from all the paperwork is like looking for a "needle in a haystack".
Anyway I'm not sure if the policy states I get a loaner but you would think that dealership courtesy would be to help the customer in any way possible especially when they just bought a $30,000 vehicle from them and they transferred plates so they now have no vehicle since the new one is in the service shop.
It's just frustrating......
It didn't tke the paperwork to get mine (loaner). I was kind of put off, if I drove in to the dealership in a Taurus would they give me a Navi/Exp to drive? No. But I come in in a Navi and I get a Taurus. Oh well. I do think its kind of sorry that they don't try to make it good for you considering your recent purchase, but if I'm not mistaken Service is a separate organization from Sales. Might hit up the sales guy again?
Does Anyone Know If The Option Button On The Factory Remote Can Be Programmed To Close The Moonroof On My 04 Expy..i Had An A-mkt Moonroof On My Explorer And When The Ignition Was Switched Off It Closed The Roof....
