Adverse effects about programmers

I am considering a superchips programmer. My questions are about the long term effects on engines and transmission using a performance setting. I hear stories about pinging and knocking. These are bad things for a engine. Is it all the grade and quality of fuel? Some people drop and drain fuel tanks to get every last drop of 87 out. Is this really what you have to do? Just wondering about the bad things that can happen to my $30K+ vehicle by getting more power out of it. The V10 from the factory has alot of potential and I would love to realize it.

Some advise or experiences would be great.

No you do not have to get every last drop of 87 out. When you order a chip go ahead and start running 93, buy the time the chip arives (5-7 days) latter you will have run a tank or two of 93 though it, go for the highest octane you can, all the powere is in the timing, if the chip is tuned right and your running good 93 octane you should never have a problem, as for the tranny the added line pressure will firm the shifts up and keep the heat down, making your tranny last a lot longer, just ask for really firm shifts, the superchip is kinda of joke, I would go with a Diablo chip, there cheaper and are more aggresive, if you don't like it, just put it on e-bay and sell it, but i'm sure you will like it. I had a funky half way working Diablo chip and when I pulled the chip I could tell a big differnce. Chips are easy to install and remove, just take your time cleaning the ecm first. Well worth the money!

Pinging and knocking won't happen if you run the correct octane fuel for the setting you select. No need to drain the tank, just drive it to near empy and refill with high octane.
