As a general rule, the block heater goes into one of the soft plug holes. The heater units that I am accustomed to insert into one of the soft plug holes and tighten using a small bolt which expands the unit internally causing it to seal. As far as screw in goes, I never heard of that one. Perhaps someone else uses that type and can help you out.
Block heater goes in the frost plug hole behind the starter, your 7.3 should have one there already.1st coolant has to be drained, starter may have to be removed.I had to remove mine but have heard of some that didnt???The one in there has a screw in the centre of it.Loosen the screw and pull heater out.WATCH YOUR EYES AS THERE WILL BE A RUSH OF COOLANT WHEN YOU REMOVE THE HEATER.Now its my turn to ask a few ??s.Why are you putting in a new heater? Is there a heater on it already?Heaters are NOT an option they are on ALL 6.9 &7.3s.
when i installed my new heater i just unbolted the starter and turned it so yhe solenoid was facing down and that gave me enough room to do the job.never heard of a screw in heater.
found the location but only see soft plugs, this is a jasper rebuild and doesnt have a block heater. as for the block heater I have, its the wrong part. thanks for the info!!!
