Anybody know the torque for installing the
TC plug back into a e40d? I've got a shop manual that
says 18 ft -lb, but that seems real high for a 1/8 pipe thd.
18 doesn't sound too bad. That is a low torque compared to many other applications. Can't confirm though, never pulled that plug and my Haynes manual doesn't mention a word about that plug. Does the shop book call for thread sealant? That would be a lousy place for a slow leak.
Shop manual doesn't say anything about sealant. I just did the
fluid change and tightened to what felt right. I did chicken out
before my clicker torque wrench hit 18 ft-lb, my reasoning was it would be a terrible place to strip a thread! I'll pull the plastic access plug and see if there's a slow drip.
I tightened mine to "snug" and haven't had a leak on it. Ford specifies that the plug is 'one use'. I reused it, but the plug seems like it is manufactured from a softer material, seems easy to strip.
