Question Manual vs Auto Xmission Flash Problems

Is it safe to assume that majority of Flash problems are associated with Automatic Xmissions?

I love the acceleration and drivability of my 6sp Manual 6.0L PSD. I am however due for 5000 mile service soon and would hate to see my performance change or mileage drop below current 15-17.5MPG.

If anything I was hoping for 19-20mpg as engine broke in further - my father's experience with his F350 7.3L PSD Crew Cab 4x4.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

5000 mile service isn't much since the 6.0 doesn't call for oil change, etc. until 7500. Open the Owners guide stuff and do the service your self. Keep any receipts. If you take it to the dealer, you will run the possibility of getting it flashed.

The way to get to know your truck is to get dirty with it. I guarantee when you take it in for routine service, you don't get a certified mechanic changing your oil, etc.

BTW I have the 5 speed auto. They really changed up the shift points on the Dec realease.

I strongly suggest that when the service writer draws up the work order, read it before it is printed out (from the screen), and add a statement in there "I authorize no other work to be performed on this vehicle, only that of changing the oil and filter." The problem you'll have is the 7,500 miles "service". You need to be told just what that includes, and then determine which to not authorize . You'll have to be careful on this.

Good point< Luke! You have to sign the work order. At least they do at the dealer I use. I change things and initial them. The writer is pretty good about reading over it with me first and goes over the invoice with me at the end.

It's your truck. If you want them to do something or not do something, put it in writing! and keep a file. I have every piece of paper I have exchanged with them.

I was reading a promo sheet they were handing out for service. It was pretty pricy. One of the things listed for a deluxe service for almost $300 was "Install oil conditioner." I asked what they installed. The writer said "I don't know". I believe they open a pint of additive and pour it in the crancase.

It's your money. Don't get ripped off!
