It's probably just a mistake, i dont know how many times someone would tell me that they were positive their car had a 350 in it. Then i go and look at it and it's obviously 307, 305, whatever. Some people just dont know what they're talking about.
When you add the fact that this place is a dealer....yeah it's definatly a mistake. I dont know how many times salesmen would tell me that there's some new monte carlos with ls1s in it, some corvettes had aluminum bodies, azteks look good, etc...
That was my thought, I just dont want to drive 1.5 hours to point this out to him.
Not to mention the fact that I am nervous of people who cant tell the difference between 2 different engines selling me a saftied car.
Oh and million, you'll like this, they are selling this 83 as "etested" I dont know if alberta is any different then ontario but 20years + is exempt...ugh who got paid 6$/hour to write up these ads ;-)
Just get the VIN from the dealer- the 8th digit is the engine code letter, which you got from the alldata.com site. One of two things: the ad should say "305" instead of "350," or it was originally built with a diesel and it got swapped out for a gas engine later, in which case it just might be a 350. If they didn't change the emissions label under the hood, that will tell you what motor it originally came with. There's also a sticker that GM puts in their vehicles (usually in the trunk) that lists every option and paint code. Don't remember all of them, but I do know that a 5-liter was an L03, and a 5.7 gas was an L05. The 3-digit "L" number will tell you which engine it was built with.
Well the 88s didnt come with chevy engines, they came with olds engines. It should have a 307 instead of a 350. The engine digit in the vin would have a Y to denote the 307.
