I am wondering if my experience is unique. Feb 2000 model with V10 and 57k miles, Service engine soon light and shifter off light blinking- dealer replaced rear transmission sensor. two weeks later, same indications. with codes PO 720 and 722 set. These reset-indicating they were of a transient nature( I guess)!!
This vehicle has been very reliable, with 75k warranty, needed one heater hose clamp, idle air control valve, and now the trans sensor. Dealers have been nice and charged only two deduct-ables. At 57k miles, brakes are still original!
Economy..if I drive only 1/2 mile trips in town, mileage can be 8.9. Usually in this city, San Antonio, TX, mileage is 10-11. Road mileage is always at least 15. On a 20 day run to the Glacier National Park, with lots of local daily runs within the park and over the border to Canada, mileage was 15.5. Cargo was two people and lots of stuff. The trip totaled 4974 miles.
After the first Firestone failed at bout 32k miles, I tossed the set and got Goodyear.
Also, how long should shocks last on this machine?
PO 720 and 722 are due to the Output Speed Sensor. It's showing that your computer is not getting a signal from that sensor. Either the sensor is bad or the wiring between the sensor and the computer has a problem. If I remember correctly, this sensor is located on the transfer case but I'm sure someone will be coming along shortly with a bit more knowledge.
Update on P720 and 722 codes....The solution was a new battery! It seems that battery failure may cause codes to be set. Battery replaced... all codes are gone and stay gone!! Anyone know of a kit to replace this stuff with manual controls?
