Emtabmm-Question on Reflash

Andy,
Just set up an appointment at my dealership to have the "latest and greatest" Flash performed
(and BTW they are giving me a free loaner car because they have to keep it for the day)
My Question is this.
What can I expect from this reflash? Is there anything I should request that they check? ie:injectors, etc
I have an 03/21/03 build date
So far I have seen my mileage range from 13 to 18 mpg depending on my driving habits and roads traveled

Was cold this morning, around 7 degrees, It was plugged in overnight and when I started it this morning I cycled the glow plugs twice just for the heck of it (key on till glow light went out. turned it off and on again till glow light went out then cranked er up) Is this a good idea or a waste of time?

I did notice a lot of white smoke as I went to work untill it warmed up.
Also later in the morning I had it running as I was loading it with wood. The engine would surge from idle and run like that for about two minutes then idle back down. It did this several times over the 1/2 hour I had it running. Is this normal?
I have about 2,500 miles on the truck now

I have the latest OASIS report from back in November when I took delivery but could you tell me what injectors I have
It was flashed in September and again on 11/7/03 before I took delivery.
Vin: 1FTNX21P93EC79934
Other than what I mentioned above, the truck runs like a scalded dog and so far I am pleased with the '03 engine I have

Thanks again for all your help

This December flash will take away the transmission "braking" in gears 4 and 5 while in tow/haul mode. I see that you tow a camper. If this (braking) is important to you you might want to reconsider this flash.

Thanks Steve.
Since my trailer is a lightweight and im on the east coast it may not be a problem. But it is something to concider.
Now if I were hauling a 15,000 lb 5th wheel over the rockies I would really be concerned

I haven't pulled my 9,000 + TT since the flash, but last time I pulled on some mountian roads this feature was very nice. I just not sure that it was ever in 4 or 5 when I was using it though. I will have to wait to find out next time out.

Doesnt hurt a thing to cycle glow plugs or to leave the key on for a minute or 2 before starting, and it is normal for the idle to ramp up and down on cold days. The white smoke on startup can leave you wondering abit, they told me this is normal but when its cold out, seams to be ALOT of white smoke instead of just abit. I have the dec. flash but wont no about mpg for awhile cause my truck is in the shop again for stalling out problem. Also an 03/03 build date. The flash did seem to quiet it down some on startup.

Thanks TX.
I know from driving a Ford school bus with an International engine (dont know which engine) that on cold days it will smoke like a three alarmer until it warms up. But I thought that the 6.0 was designed/programed to eliminate this problem

I listed white smoke at startup when cold when I took it in for the Dec flash. They also told me some white smoke when really cold (that's 30 or little lower in Central TX) is normal. They also encouraged me to use additive like Stanadyne. They have a service message on that has been posted before. I was seeing just a puff of smoke on cold startup. It seems to have gone away now, but it hasn't been that cold here lately.

Curious because I have the 12-12-03 flash and since my front pads have been replaced twice and rotors and pads once in the first 18K miles, I use the tow/haul as a braking system
(Simple logic...100K warranty on the tranny and none on the brakes!)

But when I punch the tow/haul button with my foot off the 'gas' and brakes, my tow haul downshifts almost immediately from 5th to 4th... can barely feel it, but you see the rpms go up...
and it does a great job with slight brake pedal pressure of cycling down thru the gears... all the way into first at what seems to be the right rpms to not overrev but still give lot's of engine braking

and a really cool sound with the straight piped Ex

NO more trans braking, one of the main reason I bought the 6.0.

What does that mean in detail..........please, please

Yes tell us more , Why did Ford do this?

Ford must have reasons for these flashes posted somewhere. they can't be doing it because they think its fun to change the functions of a vehicle.
BTW changing the "features" of a vehicle after it is purchased sounds like a breech of contract or at the very least false advertising.
It is the same as saying "well you bought this vehicle with a 6.0 turbo diesel and payed 5,000 buck more for it but bring it in and we are gonna put in a new and improved 2.3 four cylinder gasoline turbo at no cost to you" Geee arnt we all lucky we have ford watching out for us.
Having second thoughts on getting this flash done tomorrow.

BIG QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would Ford come back later with warrenty claims and say that you voided your warrenty because you did not get all the flashes they offered at no cost to the consumer?

I believe the engine braking still exists in the lower gears. I just had the flash done yeasterday. But my service advisor (definately not an Andy) couldn't tell me anything. ie what the flash number was or what enhancements it would provide over what it had.
