I have a '96 explorer and the upper arm bushings are worn out. The bushings that I am talking about in case I am wrong on the part name. The V shaped piece that attaches the front wheel assembly at the top. The bushing is at the point of the V. This bushing is completely worn out and I can see the polished metal underneath.
How hard of a job is it to change out the upper arm. I have been told by Ford that the only way to buy this part is to buy the complete arm. Each side is on the average 125.00 each.
Has anyone changed these themselves and if they have was it more difficult than a backyard mechanic should tackle or will I just be in for a day of work and be done with this problem.
One other question is how long should I allow this to be this way? Is it going to cause greater damage if I wait to fix it?
