Hello I have a Ranger that has the problem where the wipers stop and go in the intermittent mode, but work fine on Hi or Lo with the exception that they stop where they are when I turn them off. I have been reading all the posts on wiper problems and someone suggest checking the relays under the hood. I cannot find them and was wondering if my model had them.
Thanks for your help.
It may not be under the hood but rather in the controller on the stick. Mine is like yours but if I wiggle the end the connection resumes and it works a little.
I dont know how relevant this is or not, but - occasionally I would notice that my wipers would stop, not always, just sometimes. Also had a problem with the washer fluid button, had to push it just right to get it to work, none of this really was that big a deal, until I was making a right turn and the signal stopped on me, thought it was the bulb, then wiggled the turn switch and it started working. Bought a new multifunction switch (on steering column the turn signal lever with washer, hazards, wipers). Took about 15 minutes to replace (if you have a repair manual you dont have to remove all the stuff they say), and I havent had a problem with anything for weeks (wipers, washer or turn signals). Cost about $35 to replace the switch (95, 4.0, manual), have read somewhere that they are prone to failure.
jmq, thanks for your comments. The washer button in my '95, 3.0 will work only if pushed in and slightly twisted. Also, the wipers will start up on their own from time to time. It sounds like a new switch is in order. I didn't know they were that easy to install.
