I know, I broke a set on my 2001 F250 and they were $265, (the older ones wouldn't fold backwards - wife broke it off on the garage door- the newer fold backwards. The new ones are likely even more expensive given they have running lights and many have heated mirror glass - Note: if you change them out those features may not be available to use if the wiring isn't there.
I didn't 'personally' replace mine, the dealer did - insurance paid. I know they have to remove the interior door molding and take out three bolts and then bolt the new assymbly on. The mirror is just one big assymply, the do not sell parts nothing to assymble just bolt on.

Hi,
I changed my old style mirrors to the tow mirrors on my 99, it was easy, pop off the triangle on the door then unbolt, unplug the wires, remove and reinstall new mirror. If your wiring harness doesnt have the heated mirror plug they wont be heated, my 99 didnt have it wired in, the new ones might now, hope they do, its a nice feature. Hope this helps, changing mine took about 20 minutes in the driveway after dark, lol, take care, John
pocobueno,
I changed mine out and it was a snap. If your rig is 03 the heat part of the wiring harness is there.
swunderle,
I we through a body shop. They gave it to me at there cost... Have a look at ebay. I typed in ford mirrors and there's a set for $299.. Good luck!!
