Question How did you...

...buy your truck? I negotiated for and bought my truck entirely online, having two different dealerships competing with each other.. I am curious how many people are still buying the traditional way and how many are buying off the internet.

It would be interesting too to find out if we can get a better deal on the net or the old fashioned way. I got my truck for just slightly under invoice price. How did you all do?

Used edmunds.com and emailed the dealers in my area from there site and was able to deal directly with the fleet departments. MSRP was 40k and I got mine for 36,800, I was able to use what they call the x-plan plus a $1,500 rebate so it was about $2,000 under invoice. I was very pleased with how easy it was.

I got the Sticker from the dealer, worked out invoice and book value on my trade from Auto Trader.com and the rebate from Ford.com. I visited my friend at the dealer and told them on the 15th of December what I would pay difference. I ended up paying $29,000 for a 03 SC XLT Auto with posi elect seats and some other goodies. Texas dealers have to pay state and local tax on their inventories at the end of the year so they try to liquidate.

Bought mine in late December.

Traded an '01 - 7.3l for NADA trade-in book value.

Purchased an '04 - 6.0l for about $8K under MSRP - said another way about $1,200 over invoice and then took $3,000 in rebates ($1,500 base rebate, $500 Internet rebate, $500 ford credit rebate, $500 Holiday cash rebate) plus I'm supposed to get a $750 certificate for Milwakwee tools.

This was the second truck I bought from my Ford dealer. (great guy). I sold my old 2001 F350 for 22K. Then, I went 40 miles to the dealership, and bought this truck in sig. Window sticker was 48K and change. I ended up with it for around 43K

You see, what I am thinking is that there are a lot of us posting here and we are all consumers of the same product. There is power in numbers. Do you see where I am going? We all buy parts, oil, filters, aftermarket stuff...

"Fear" = Chilling affect

Well, now we know that Mystic CT has a Ford dealership to whom one can go and receive reasonable, and I stress reasonable, customer service. And that is why, there should be no fear in complimenting those dealerships, such as Valenti Ford, while at the same time, making public those dealerships through whom one has received perceived lousy service.

And opening discussing the issues in public, such as on this respected forum.

The "fear" of mentioning Dealership Names is what is called "chilling affect" in open discussions. Don't fall for it. Simply, think before you speak (write)........

Just a Thought.........on...........My Perceptions.......

I bought both of my trucks (ok so one is an SUV) in the past 6 months from the same dealer. I can't quote what I paid because I simply can't remember. I think it was about $35,800 for a $39,800 F-350. I think the X-Plan, A-plan and D-plan are all a hoax. I think as along as they can keep making us think we got a deal they will keep raising the prices and then discounting them. Think about what these trucks cost 5, 10 or 15 years ago. I know the SD's have brought about a big change but I know my dad bought a 1996 F-250HD Super cab, XLT, 4x4, etc. for about $28k. In 1974 he bought the same identical truck when the Supercabs first came out and paid $4800 and was embarrassed that he paid so much. The funny thing is they had simialr axles, engines and frame yet the cost was 7x's more. My SD has a diesel but otherwise it's very similar and look at what I paid. On top of all this I'm in a position at work to see what things cost, what it costs us and seeing what the mark-up is. Sometimes we make a reasonable profit but usually we make a gross profit......so really, what is this truck worth and how great of a deal are we getting?

All of the dealers around me (Atlanta metro) are discounting the SDs by $7K off MSRP. Not too bad of a deal.

I went looking for mine back in December. Even after reading about all of the problems with PSD, I decided I wanted a new one with the diesel. The last one I had was a 2000 CC 2wd with the V10. With as much driving that I do, I was hoping to get slightly better than the 13 mpg I got with the V10.

Anyways, I digress . . . I went to the dealer with no intention of buying one that particular day. However, they had a used 2003 Lariat FX4 CC with just over 5k miles. It already had the billet grill, tinted windows, and the woodgrain dash. Sticker was still in the truck and was originally $44K and some change. They were now asking $34k. I couldn't believe it. After a little negotiating, they took off another $1200 and I got what I think is a real bargain.

Truck seems to run great. Depending on temp and how much I try to mess with all the little cars zooming around me, I get between 16 and 18.5 mpg on the computer. I think the engine build date shows early June 2003 if I remember correctly.

I just love it. Especially now that I got my new amp pushing 10's behind the back seat and satellite radio.

I too went to Valenti Ford in Mystic and they told me that I could go anywhere I wanted to and I would get the same bottom line price as they tried to feed me. Not True! I went to Jack Madden Ford in Norwood,Mass and they had around 1500 trucks in stock there. I definitely got the best deal there after looking all over for the specific truck that I wanted.
Valenti Ford is close to my house and I always had good luck with their service Dept. My truck has been there for four days with a oil pan full of diesel fuel and they havent had a chance to get to it yet. Hope I get it back before another payment is due on it!
