Question Henrob Welder

I recently bought a Henrob 2000 gas welder. So far it has worked preety good on fender panels and thin guage metals. I am trying to weld some old 3/16" frame rail scraps together to make a bracket for my clutch return spring. As soon as I get the metal cherry the welder pops and the flame goes out. The Henrob people say to set both the oxygen and acetylene. at 5 lbs., and to set the flame just off feather. This all works fine for thin metals , but on 3/16" frame rails it keeps popping and goes out. I am pretty new at welding (Self teaching) so I know I have a lot to learn. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Buy yourself a nice welding handbook at one of the home-box stores. They have pretty pictures and explanations that can help.

you may want to watch the video again so you check your process. the instuctor is a little boring but his how to's are good for this product.
there is lots of reasons but it sounds like your Oxygen is too high or acetelyne too low or maybe the torch tip is just too close to the metal.
the Henrob is definitley not a pick up and go tool. keep trying you'll get it.

One problem, I agree.

And, your torch could have a small leak, maybe not sealing well.

5 and 5 seems a bit low to me. I usually use 5 and 15 for welding anything approaching 1/4".

set your guages 7 and 15, did you change tip size for the thicker metal, the blue cone should be about 3/8" long after you light the torch turn the acetelyne untill you get a orange flame slowly, add o2 untill you get that rounded cone if the cone is to pointed your torch is going to pop every time.

I have that torch too and some others. Use the tip with the large hole afterlighting the torch increase acetelyne until you get orange flame do not increase so much that you blow flame off the tip---in other words you dont want a gap in flame at the tip if you do have a gap just decrease acetelyne a little at a time until gap disappears-------now slowly increase oxygen until you get blue cone---now you are ready to weld thick stuff----also for your info on thick stuff it is better to move torch towards your weld
as this preheats the metal before or in front of your weld. this
is called the forehand method If you still get a pop or blowout
decrease oxygen a little Happy welding

I cut back on the oxygen and was able to finish my weld. It's not real pretty, but with practice, I'll (hopefully) get better. Thanks to all of you for your advice.
