Well my 96 was hit not ONCE but TWICE tonight. My wife called about 5:15 and said 'I've been in a wreck'. She's fine other than being a little shaken and 2 months prgnant with our first.
Rush hour traffic is hell in this town after 4:30 in the afternoon, in a town of only 60-70,000 not including the county and others passing through. Anyway she was on a 4 lane road when she went from the inside lane to the left turn lane. Well some folks in front of her left a hole for this girl to pull out and make a left turn. My wife was hit under the passenger side door by a small Dodge that the girl was driving, from that little punch to the side of my beloved truck, the rear driverside was knocked into the oncoming lane of traffic enough to take out the rear 1/4 panel behind the wheel and bumper. Cop gives my wife a ticket for entering the turning lane to early! HUH? Un-believable!
It ain't like theres a median there to keep you from turning into the shopping center thats on the left. This lane is better known to alot of folks as the suicide lane.
I've NEVER understood WHY anybody would try to make a left turn at that time of day and close to an intersection that makes it almost impossible to make the turn anytime of day. Well enough of my rant, I'm still steamed over this ticket as much as I am about the accident.
sorry about your truck man, glad your wife is ok, and i agree i dont think it was her fault the cops just had to find some reason to give her a ticket to make them look good.
Bad luck on the truck, but just remember trucks can be fixed- your wife and future family are ok and that is really all that matters. As for the ticket, I'd have your wife go to the court date and if the judge has any heart, when he (or she) sees her family condition may very well knock the ticket down to a lesser offense or just give her a warning. Worked with my wife when she had a reckless driving ticket- all she said was she didn't realize she was going that fast (absolute truth), and the judge knocked a few miles off the ticket, making it a simple speeding ticket.
I hope your wife saw a doctor, or will see one tomorrow. I walked away from my truck being hit years ago. But, I still went to a doctor. I had tight muscles all in my shoulder, cost me physical therapy for a few weeks. You better check on that baby!!
Remember, you can always suffer from whiplash. Kind of like doing heavy work, you don't feel the brunt of it till the next day.
She's doin ok just a little shook up. Her grandfather is a chiropractor so if shes in any pain tommorow she will go to see him, along with the doctors that she works with, she should be ok. I still can't get over this damn ticket though. I went and talked to a lawyer that lives in my old neighborhood. He said he wasn't sure about the violation without looking up the statutes. In the turning lane to early, thats a damn new one on me, but what the hell ever. Thanks for the kind words guys, she and I appreciate it.
UPDATE: I talked to the cop saturday night, and he said he would dismiss the ticket against my wife. I talked to the district attorney and he told me to drop the ticket off and he would dimiss it! Also the adjuster for my insurance company talked with the adjuster for the girl who hit my truck. After reviewing the accident report they are willing to take 100% responsibility.
Now I just hope that the shop I get to fix it will be able to put it back together and keep those STRAIGHT body lines.
Hey, I know how you feel. When we first bought my truck, it wasn't even 1 week before I got my title, and I was hit. It was raining, and I had my fogs, running lights, and headlights going at 8am. Some guy came out of a gas station and hit my rear rim, did alot of damage to my rear axle. It was my first accident, and yet, I did a 180 spin, and was facing oncoming traffic. As people approached me to see how bad I was hurt, since I was next to my truck (on my knees crying). It was tears of pain for my truck.
Anyways, sorry to stray like that. Whatever happens, make sure your wife is taken care of. And make sure your baby is ok too. And don't let them settle with you for less than it's worth. I've been there, and the other company tried to pull a fast one on me.
