This is a goofy theory, but I think now might be a good time to bring it up.
I've had F100s and F250s with decent brakes and I'm pretty competenet with my mech. skills but my 78 crew has the same problem as described by Zigler. Hard pedal and can't lock em up. Everything is new, Pulled the pin on the prop. valve etc.

A friend says he had same problem that started with minor motor upgrades ~and a new exhaust system~.

HIS THEORY:
The new 3", free flowing exh. system on his "cammed" 400m darn near eliminated the back pressure required to provide adequate vacuum to the booster.
He says he fixed his by installing an orofice (big washer) right behind the collectors which reduced the pipe diameter to about 2.25".

I didn't know what to think about this but he swears it worked.
Can anyone prove or disprove the theory?

I honestly don't see what the diameter of the exhaust pipe would have to do with it at all, the cam now is another story. If you have a rough idle cam it will decrease the amount of vaccum that is built up at idle only.If you are having a problem with the brakes at an idle with a rough cam and they work fine when normal driving then I could see a vaccum problem

It is a proven theory that if there is No Back pressure from installing large exhaust, to the valves they will Warp.

ok, now I feel bad. I feel like I encroached on someone elses thread. Sorry folks.

Thanks to Ranger429 for your help. By the questions you asked and what you offered, I may have it figured out. If not, I will start a new thread explaining my issues.

Thanks,
Stanky

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Unless it is only on air-cooled engines, that this happens.
you will still have some backpressure with 3" exhaust, and I highly doubt that it would wind up warping the valves. Wonder what happens to all them motor's that run open headers??
