I am currently using 15" wipers on my truck, and the passenger side seems too long as the last 3" of it dont even touch the bottom parts of the windshield beacause it curves so sharply. The driver side seems to short beacuse it misses a small part in the middle of the windshield. Does everyone have this problem? One more thing, the defroster misses a 6" strip in the middle of the windshied, is that normal as well. I have to tear the truck apart this weekend to replace the fan motor, (squeals like a stuck pig) and wondered if there was anything odd I should look for. TIA
ANCO winter blades are the only ones I've found that will follow the curve of the windshield. As the rubber gets harder they will stop following the curve and need to be replaced.
Your defroster works like mine, but after a while that stip is gone, maybe 5-10 minutes.
I usually swap blades by the season. During the cold winter months I use the ANCO winter blades, but once we get the thaw and the rains start coming I put the Bosch blades on. They last twice as long doing this...as they get a brake from our sun.
The 6" or so strip is normal too. The only time I have problems is when it's really cold out and snowing. Then the snow/ice starts to build-up on the windshield (middle and under the wipers too) and makes for exciting driving. Usually will have to pull over and wipe the windshield off with my hand.
One last thing...you might want to check the angle of your wiper arms. They should not be horizontal with the bottom of the windshield, but more of a 10 - 15 degree (just a guess...like 1-2-3" in the up position). That will help the missed part in the middle of the windshield. If they are horizontal...then remove and adjust a tooth or two on the wiper blade mount.
the dash has to be clear of stuff for the defroster to work and you could check the duct in the vent holes to`make sure it's lined up and nothing has fallen in blocking air flow
15's here too. I second the motion on wider openings for the defrost.
I personally feel that the outlets should blow right where the wipers park at. This would help keep them fron getting too much build-up on them.
Even my 2001 blows just above the blades.

I currently use 17" and 16" for my Pylon blades. I forget which side has the longer blade, but there are no middle wipe problems and they clear the windshield weatherstripping.
For the defroster problem, in the 'ol 79 bronco, my dad used to place an empty 2-liter soda bottle above one of the registers to disperse the airflow. Other than that, make sure that the window interior is clean and try some anti-fog product.
