Transfer Case Not Engaging: 95 F250 7.3 4WD Auto
I have a 95 F250 7.3 4WD Auto with "Auto" hubs and I don't think the tranfer case is operating properly. I put the truck in 4WD (I have the lever on the floor, and not the push button) in my driveway, backed up about 25', put it in DRIVE, and was stuck in the snow (gravel/grass driveway with 6"+ of snow). I remember reading the owners manual, and it told me that if I reverse directions, that the hubs may disengage. So I jumped out of the truck to investigate.
I had my wife "drive" and I got out of the truck and stood in front of it (I was out of the way, tho ) so I could see the U-joints at the front wheels. As my wife hit the gas, one rear wheel spun, and the front U-joints didn't move. Since the transfer case lever is in 4WD Hi, and the 4x4 light is illuminated, this tells me (I think) that the transfer case is not engaging. Is this a fair assumption?
Any ideas on what this might be? I've heard a few people mention that electronic and vacuum operated devices play roles in 4WD engagement, but I'm not sure whether my truck utilizes this type of technology. I always assumed that the tranfer case was mechanically actuated by the floor lever, and the "auto" hubs were actuated by some type of mechanical clutching mechanism.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Today in the snow wife driving stuck it. Shifted floor lever to 4 hi it showed 4x4 light on dash all we had was right rear wheel spin.
1996 F250 supercab long bed powerstroke 5spd 4x4 with auto hubs stock truck no mods.
This happened once before on wet grass with a trailer full of bikes.
I am convinced my auto hubs are junk; they are the 3 bolt version, and plan to order a set of Milemarkers from Rubicon4x4.com. $173.62 with hubs conversion kit and socket delivered!
I've heared the milemarkers are as good as warn anyone had any problems

Well, if the front driveline is not spinning, that rules out the hubs, there is something wrong in the transfercase. I would basicly say it is toast. I would take it apart though and see if it is the linkage, or something major in there. I would see if a NP 205 would bolt up, instead of the replacing the borg warner 1446, or something like that, the NP 205 is gear to gear, a lot spronger. Came in late 70's for pickups.
