I have a 1997 Mazda B3000 series with 4-wheel drive and v6 and recently my front right side was bangin' really loud and I could feel it under my feet. After talking to a few people, they said it's probably the U-Joints and that I could probably grease those puppies up and that would take care of everything. However, I was expecting a valve to apply the grease and there's not (at least from what I can see). I was wondering if Mazda had the non-greasable U-Joints or if I'm just overlooking something. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks Adam
"Loud banging that u can feel under your feet" sounds like if it is u-joint it needs to be replaced. I'm unsure about 97 Mazda but 95 Ranger i had to install the grease fittings myself. But i dont think grease is gonna help loud banging however I've been wrong before.
You are due for u-joints. Grease won't help at this point. If it's the middle joint, be prepared for a few words of-well nevermind. If it's the outer joint it's not too bad.
There haav been several threads on this already, but here is what i got from them. Bu the way i have a ranger that does the same thing.
There are no grease zerks on there. And trust me i looked everywhere. And greaseing it will help. It acts as a cusion between the metal. Is it kinda like a thump when starting to move or put under load? To grease it you have to ramove the drive shaft and grease it (ask other though b/c i havenever done it). I need to do it to mine i just dont have the time. do a search on here for greasing the splines. it should help you some. If you have a different problem, then sorry you had to read all this crap.
If it is the drive line ujoints, dont bother to grease, just replace they are less than $20 each. If you have an extended cab you may have 3, dont know about the 4wd vehicles. Also if extended cab check your carrier bearing, they run about $60.
I paid 15 for the R&R of the carrier, and $6 per ujoint, a lot easier then my tring to do it. They appeared to be OEM at 130,000 and were a Bit-- to remove. Guy put antiseize in the holes for reassembly, also mark how the tube is assembled and replace it exactly for balance purposes.
