351W Tick/knock

I have a 1993 F250 with a 351W and during cold starts or when the truck has sat idle for a day the passeger side of the block has a tick with the truck under no load and when I start to go down the road it becomes real loud. As the truck warms up it goes away. Any ideas?

This could be a lifter that is getting worn out , or oil might be spent , try a thinner oil 5w30 or could be exhaust manifold cracked or manifold collector studs rotten hope this helps.

my ranger had that when i bought it. it turns out that one of the plugs only had a half a turn on there and that sound was actually the air puffing out each time the cylinder was fired. i'm with waljon though. its probably a lifter. check the plugs just in case though
