Dunno if 1500#s would make that much difference, but my PSD only had about 1500 miles on it at the time. The trailer is a 23' travel trailer and seems to have quite a bit of wind resistance. When I used to tow it with my '00 expy, sometimes I would have a hard time maintaining 55-60mph if I had a strong head wind. It would never even get into OD either.
With the PSD it'll tow in OD all day long without any downshifts.
I'm hoping that now that I have a few more miles on the PSD it'll get better fuel economy.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 13-Aug-02 AT 01:11 PM (EST)]Darn V10man...you really know how to make a guy feel bad...same fuel mileage as a gasser...OUCH!
Hopefully with a little more mileage on the truck I will be getting the same fuel economy as rplett.
There's definitely some mods in my future though. I sure miss that flowmaster rumble, so I think a new exhaust is first on my list!
I keep track of my mileage for every fill up. I have always ranged from 10 or 11 in town to 12 or 13 mpg highway for the 2001 listed below. I just completed a 3,000 camping trip around the west and on a few tanks on long straight Wyoming and Montana roads at a cruise controlled 85 mph, I averaged 14 mpg. Later in the trip I had a tank that was almost all 80-85 mph and again got 13.98 mpg. My V-10, at least seems to like the higher speeds.
Rob you woun't get better. I pulled my 5th wheel, close to 11k w/ may PSD 6spd at 75 and got 9 flat. With my V10 auto I run 75 in OD w/ no problems and get 9.3.
I never in 100k mile saw more than 19 mpg unloaded on the hwy with the PSD, the V10 I get 15.6 on the hwy.
Well...I just returned from a 200 mile, each way trip to Tampa, FL and unloaded (topper plus about 200lbs of gear) I got 19.4mpg. This included highway, country roads and some stop-and-go driving. The truck now has just over 4K miles. For the same trip when it was new (<300 miles) it got 18.6mpg. I just hope that my towing mpg has increased as well, which I should find out this weekend since I'll be doing some camping.
Here is the report on the Lawton trip. Trailer loaded and weighing in at 8000lbs. 22' long, 8 1/2' wide Cargo Mate. Going up I got 10.43 mpg. I was happy. Coming back-----into a 40mph headwind I got a solid 6.6. I think I'll plan all of my trips with a tailwind from now on. Other than the lousy mpg the truck ran fine. Two weeks on to OKC, I'll check it again. The Leer shell---- I could see a bug line about 8" down on the trailer, it is rounded there but there is wind resistance. The shell should be a couple inches taller for perfect blow over the top. There were alot of bugs on both sides about 16 inches. I am catching alot of wind there. There is no perfect world. WHAT A TRUCK
