I have two very inportant questions, hope someone could answer them in a timely manner because the wife wants this truck for her (REAL BAD)
I have a 99 dodge ram 2500 diesel that March is my last payment. ( 42 yrs old and this will be only the second time paying off a vehicle). No problems with the motor but had a $400.00 tranny problem around 85k. Anyway, i was shopping at Bob davidson ford in Md. and priced up a F350 Lariat crew cab 4X4, camper pkge (532), FX4 off rd (55F), 6.0 diesel (99P), Electronic Torqshift (44B), 3.73 Limited slip (XD1), Two Tone Oxford white - Arizona Beige (954), heated seats (90H), crome tubular steps (18k), roof clearance lights (592), telescoping mirrors (54k), bodyside molding (965), power sun roof (43M), reverse vehicle aid sensor (76R), 12.5k trailer hitch receiver (86T), power Sliding rear window (435).
These package #'s were from the salesman.
He told me that the invoice on the truck is $41,694.00, he'll sell me the truck for $200.00 over invoice at $41,894.00. including the destination and advertising charges.Today i went on intellichoice.com and they're invoice with the options is $39645.00 including the destination charge but not the advertising charge.. Is there anyway i can find out the true invoice for this vehicle to present this to the dealer and the $200.00 over invoice as the salesman said he would sell me the truck?
Second Question, I keep telling my better half to hold off on ordering this vehicle because of the problems Ford is having with the 6.0 Has these problems been corrected for 04 vehicles or can i show her from this thread to possibly wait for a while before we order.
As someone who sold new vehicles for three years and being able to buy Ford at X Plan price - rebates I can only say: If the salesman is honest he will show you a comparable vehicle's invoice and you can see the price for yourself. If you are giving up your rebates you are not getting a good deal. The 6.0 is a good engine, some have problems and a lot of us do not - we just love the get up and go. Good luck on your decision.
I was in a similar situation, I owned a 2000 Dodge Cummins Diesel, had 100,000 miles in it in June of 2003.
They came out wit the ( X ) plan at work, the sticker price on the New Ford 6.0 was 41500.00
With the ( X ) plan and the Ford rebates I drove the new Ford home at 32000.00 dollars.
Its best when you can grab them with a plan and the factory rebates.
I bought my 03 F250 SD PSD this past December and got it for LESS than invoice - all over the internet. I got two dealerships competing with each other and the first one to meet what I had decided was a fair price won.
The invoice price IS NOT what the vehicle actually costs the dealer. Included in the invoice are at least two charges: floor plan allowance, dealer holdback; and sometimes advertising or promotional fees.
While it is true that the dealer does pay the factory the above mentioned charges, the dealership is rebated those charges when the vehicle sells! Thus, even if you pay invoice, the dealer STILL makes a profit.
I strongly recommend you go to carbuyingtips.com and read everything there before you buy. Jeff saved me roughly 2000 dollars and he charges you nothing to use his website. Jeff’s website can also tell you where to find true invoice prices.
The bottom line is that, 9 times out of 10, you will get a better deal on the internet IF you already know what you want to buy.
try out www.edmunds.com
you can find out invoice there.
first go to fords website and do a search. you should be able to find the window sticker for your vehicle. you will need it when you price out the options.
an honest salesman should show you the invoice but research anyway to make sure he is showing you the real invoice.
Another source for pricing is Costo. Go to Costco.com, then to services and you can price out the truck you want with the exact options and get both retail and dealer invoices.
For actual invoice pricing on the trucks at your dealership, go to forddirect.com, find a dealership, and you can search for any vehicle. It will give you the actual vehicles on their lot, retail and invoice pricing. Print it out, give it to the dealer, and ask if they will do any better. There may be other rebates as others have indicated. I purchased my truck in October, got X-plan pricing (your company has to be affiliated with Ford somehow) and $4500 in additional rebates. By the time I was done, a nearly $42K truck cost me about $32K, plus taxes and fees.
Thanks for the help guys. I looked up on a couple of sites, Edmunds, kbb, intellichoice and forddirect. The truck's MSRP with all the options i listed comes to $47,775. Invoice is $40,073, minus the $1,000 rebate. So the truck they will sell me will be $39,073 plus tax and tags. This seems like a good price for the truck.
How about the smoke problems, stalling, poor mileage and hard starting this motor's been having? Has the lastest 12/13 flash taken care of these problems

Check out the other forum topics- there are plenty of updates on all of those issues. Odds are, the truck you buy will be just fine.
