Ford made around 139,000 '48 models - they're easy to id from the '8' prefix.

Gets a little more uncertain as you can tell from the 49-early 51 vins cause the same prefix was used (9). As near as I have been able to tell the annual production numbers are similar to '48.

1949 I automatically assign to any vin under 150,000
1950 - 150K to ? 300,K These could easily be off by 10% or more but its a guideline I use.
1951 is easy cause the front sheet metal changed so they look different (unless it was changed)

it is hard to read the VIN. Maybe I am looking in the wrong spot. The tag I found was under the hood on the passenger side fire wall. All I could make out on it was a stamped KC. Not sure if I am looking in the right spot.
Again, any help would be appreciated.

That's one tag. Are you sure that's not RC? V8 powered? Only way you could have a KC in your vin is if it's a late 51-52 model.

There is another tag inside the glovebox door that has the vin stamped plus some other info.

Also on the top of the frame rail. My '48 is on the passenger side, up by the motor mount and is only a * (star) with the 6 numbers of the vin followed by another * (star)

none are stamped very deep and scouring too hard will obliterate them. Rub with a soft cloth or paper towel. Shine a light across the surface and I'll bet the others will show up.

The tag you have is the cab id plate, which is all I have also. The VIN should be stamped on the frame rail, as Tim said, however, mine was on the drivers side rail, right on top, about a foot behind (toward the cab) the radiator.

48s had a stainless division bar in the doors. They all had black wheels, later models were body color. These are changable items buy they could be a clue.

1948 had chrome wing window bar separating the wing from the door window.
