First post, glad to be here, lots of good info for SD owners.
P
icked-up my 02 250SD a couple days ago (screw, 5.4, 4x4, plow package, BFT). Noticed at 100 or so miles, the driver's side doors are rattling, now at 300 the passengar side doing the same. Coming out of a F150, which never squeeked or rattled, this is somewhat of a bummer! Is this the norm with SD's? It's a super stiff truck so I can see how it could be, but I hope not.
sorry... I should have done a search. I had no idea it is such a common problem. Not encouraging. Anyone get the problems resolved / come-up with a fix?
Welcome to the site! You listed your truck as a "screw"... that's the common nickname for the F150 Super Crew. Do you have a super-cab or crew-cab Super Duty?
I don't think rattling windows are a common problem- at least not on the crew cab. The super cab models do have some squeaks, but it's the rear access doors, not the windows. I think you should take your truck into a service center and have them check it out.
I've owned chevys and dodges, no rattles, no work and they break often. I've owned ford super and heavy duties and now an excursion 4X4 V-10. the fords rattle a little when new, drive them, don't fix the little rattles right away, they will go away on their own. The dealers sometimes make things worst. They get real quiet around 15,000 miles and stay that way forever. they work harder then any trudck on earth and they never break unless you put a lot of effort into breaking them. Good luck with your truck, turn up the radio.
Well, put a little electrical tape on the latches (3 of them, each side) as kind of a test. Added just enough to snug-up the latches without binding... rattles gone. WD40 on the seals, got rid of the body flex squeak. Hey, it's a temp "fix" but it'll last until I have enough time to hassle with the dealer
My 02 250 SC had a creaking like rattle in the drivers door too. My dealer fixed it at my first service by removing debris from the door seals and put on some silicone spray to keep it quiet. Seems to be working great. It's as quiet as my Expy.:-)
