Anybody know the difference between the 28oz/50oz/neutral Harmonic Balancer? How would you know which weight to use? I plan on buying a new harmonic balancer for the rebuild 302 (306cc). thanks in advanced.
Did you change the crank any? If not, then just put in the same that was there. If you did change the crank, then you may need to take the soecs of the crank to an auto engine rebuild shop and they c=should be able to tell you what you need. The stock will prolly be the neutral. The others depend on the crank you put in if its not the stock size. The larger the crank, the larger the weight for off set the larger lobes on the crank.
It goes by the year of the motor, any automotive shop should be aable to tell ya. I think 28 oz is for the newer motors 80's and 90's. Give me the year of your motor and I can probably find out for you by monday.
Thanks for the quick response. yea...i'm throwing a rebuild engine 302(306cc) to my '90 XLT Bronco....but rebuilding the old engine 302 to a 347 but really don't want to use the old parts (Harmonic Balancer).
Since it seems that you are boring it out for more displacement, what else have you done or are doing to it? Could make a diff on the balancer depending on what you are doing.
There is a forum that has helped me with my re-build of my 351. It is strictly a Q & A on only ford small block motors 289/302/351 and 5.0. The web-site name is network54/ford small block forum. The guy's on the site are really good and chance's are somebody has done exactly what your doing, they can give you some great advice. If you can't find it, e-mail me and I will give you the exact address.
