Synthetic in a 4.9

I like your theory polishwonder, but my Celica was the opposite. If i babied it, and put the better oil, PSF, ATF, antifreeze, belts, hoses, etc. Something else would go. When I drove it nice, the wheel litterally fell of. (Cotter pin sheared in the spindle nut) When I fixed it, I gave up on preventative maintence, except the oil changes, and drive the HELL out of it, and it still runs good. Later

Wow. I baby the living **** out of my Mustang as well as my truck, fluids-wise, MOBIL1 Synthetics in everything, brake fluid, power steering, oil, tranny, rear-end...etc. And I drive the **** out of both of them Nothing has broken yet....knock on wood.

This winter we have seen temps as low as -5*F. Currently running Mobil 1 5W-30 in my truck and although the battery couldn't crank it, once it grabbed it had no trouble running - and lifter noises are minute since i switched to synthetics. (i used to run Motorcraft).
I am going to take a Oil Analysis in 2,500 miles to see how it looks with Mobil. Then im putting on the Motor Guard bypass sytem and taking another sample after 5000 miles. we'll see which is better
