Hey i've searched an havent seen a problem quite like this, there seems to be a low end miss in my truck under accelleration at about 1800-2000 rpm. Now my truck was smashed up 4 days ago (damn women drivers ) and i won't have it back for a while but to remedy this situation i plan on changing the fuel filter, plugs, wires, and cleaning the tb. Any one else have this problem? if so was it anything else?
Drizzt,
I seem to have the same problem. When I try to accelerate, it seems as though a spark plug is missing or something. I changed the plugs, cables, fuel filter, and air filter. I still have the miss. At first I thought I was changing gears too soon, but even at 40 mph in 3rd gear, I try to accelerate abruptly and my truck bucks and jerks.
I have read other posts here about people having the same problem, at it always turned out to be the coil pack had gone bad.
I have an appointment with Ford on Wednesday to see if they can find the problem. I will keep you posted.
BTW, I am going to check the fluid levels of the tranny and differential since I changed the fluids to Royal Purple last month. I notice the "miss" more now since I changed these out. Could Royal Purple be causing my "miss?" I don't think so, but you never know.
nah the oil wouldn't be making your engine miss, it's either a fuel or a spark problem. and just so everyone knows i have a 5 speed so it's nothing to do with the automatic tranny (not that an automatic tranny would cause a miss, just letting people know...)
You didn't say how old your truck is or how many miles are on it. But...it seems that most guys who have had problems with a miss, stumble, etc., (myself included) have resolved their problem with new plugs and wires. I replaced mine at 90,000 miles and it solved my problem completely.
I do suggest OEM (Motorcraft) parts. Not that there aren't others out there that wouldn't work, but I KNOW Motorcraft work well.
Plesae let us know what you find out.
i have the same problem on a 97 4.2 142,000 miles new plugs wires fuel pressure regulator nothing is working it starts hard after it sits for a few hours always stumbles when i try to take off
I have had the same exact problem on my 4.2 for 2 years now and nothing I have tried could fix it. Today is a day of change! I took the advise given by a member above and ordered a new coil pack. Well it worked! No more hesitation between 1800-2000rpms! I have a whole new truck! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I recommend you order one for your rig; it is the answer!
changed the plugs and it runs like a top. two of the plugs semmed to be fouled and kinda smelled like gasoline. runs amazing now thanks for the help though guys
recently had the low end miss in each gear. I noticed it most at no load and then with light acceleration. Well eventually the CEL came on. Went to dealer. They recommended removing upper intake and cleaning EGR ports. Had them do this and the miss is 99% gone. Once in a while I still feel an occasional single miss. I had 103,000 miles on the "97.
i cured my low end miss by going to ford paying them to diagnose my problem they told me my cam positioning sensor was bad and the cam synchoronizer was bad changed both parts myself runs great now
