302 question

engine idle jumped about 300 rpm and a metalic rattling sound
apperd in exhaust manifold and died possible valve problem.

So uhhhh....what's your question?

Did you search this forum? Anyway, check out these recent threads. Two of them are regarding bent valves, one is a rattling caused by a crack in the header.

sorry about that,I was just wondering if a bent valve would sound
like that and cause it not to start again.

no it should start again if it is just one valve hopefully you did not drop one or screw up the cam

tried to start it again but all it did was sputter and spit like it wanted to start but wouldn't .Not going to fix it just yet but it is
nice toknow what happend to it. Thanx for replies.

new timing chain and gears about six months ago. Would a cracked head cause this prblem.?

Not sure if a cracked head would cause these kind of a problem. i have never experienced anything like that or read about anything like that.

It may be best to remove the valve covers at this point and see what you have under there. If everything looks good pull the coil wire and crank the motor over to see if everything is moving correctly.

Never heard of a ford V8 breaking a cam but you never know. Just a thought.
