Problem w/ E40D trans
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 04-Sep-02 AT 04:29 PM (EST)]I had it rebuilt and had new electricals put on it from the ford shop. The problem now is that before I can drive it after it has been setting for a few days I have to let it idol a few before it will take the gear. I also experienced it when I was pulling a Car for a distance, when I got to where I was going when I put it in reverse it hesitated(slipped). I let it seat for around 3 hours and it did fine when I got ready to leave. Its a 19991 F350 Dually OD

First thing to check is the transmission fluid level. With the transmission warmed up and the engine idling in park is the level in the DO NOT ADD zone?
If so, check it before starting after it has set for as long as it takes to usually show the problem. If it is a long way overfilled the torque converter is draining back into the transmission. There is a check valve in the valve body that can stick and cause this. The delay is waiting for the torque converter to refill.

Sounds like Mark nailed it on his first try. What an asset to FTE to have a guy like that around.
I guess you need a new check valve. :-(

Sounds like Mark nailed it on his first try. What an asset to FTE to have a guy like that around.
I guess you need a new check valve. :-(

The internal in the tranny,
needs to go back to the shop that rebuilt it.
