Ive been heating under my truck trying to get the pumps to unfreeze for two hours now with a propane heater. Still I cannot get fuel to the fuel bowl. After a few cycles I can get some, but very little. Has anyone ever had to do this before? How long does it take?
Thanks
Have you been using any anti-gel or fuel conditoner? Might want to try adding Kerosene. Just make sure it is undyed. I've found using Kero instead of conditioner works alot better
Dont wanna sound like a smart a**, but where did you pick up the load of water? I know winter is tuff on diesel but gotta be careful where and when (tanker unloading) you buy your fuel.
I think builder12 is right, you are not de-gelling, you are de-icing. Exactly the same as happened to me last year.
It's probable that is only iced up bad in one spot...but which one?
When a water hose with a nozzle on it is left out it will freeze in the nozzle before the hose, so your problem might only be where the fuel line necks down a little as it enters the fuel bowl. If you have a drop light that you can lay next to the bowl with the hood down it should thaw that spot fairly quickly.
If it's at the pump or in the lines underneath then keep doing what you're doing, the heat transfer will eventually work, though it may take all day or more. It took the better part of two days for me to get mine thawed last year.
Well, another very cold day and still no progress on the froen psd. Today I will try again, but this time with a giant tarp over the truck.
And yes BenRosey, I did put diesel 911 in the fuel bowl as well along with the two bottles in the tank. Didnt help though. Wish me luck.
Ford, you may also have run into several problems at one time. After the thawing process, take note while cranking and make sure the tach is trying to move. That would indicate the cps is gone south on you. I would try wrapping the truck with a tarp and setting the heater under the bed blowing forward toward the fuel tank and the engine. just make sure it wont start a fire. That would be kind of tuff to explain to the insurance dude. Good luck and keep us posted.
update: Still no fuel to fuel bowl. But something new has to come to my attention. I put diesel 911 in the bowl and cranked it. The 911 did not leave the bowl. Is something in the engine area frozen?
I clearly don't know. I spent 4 days trying to get mine to start by checking everything I've read here. I hope it is something silly I missed and not a major repair. I'll post what happens to mine tomorrow. Good luck man.
