lumbar support just 'snapped'

98 F-150 SC SB 4x4. I was driving along when I heard a loud pop and all my back support was gone! Does anyone know what's involved in fixing/replacing this?

thanks

I read a post a while back, it stated that it could be fixed 3 ways.

1. easiest but most expensive: get a whole new assembly from the dealler.

2. if the cable broke at the attachment point, there may still be enought cable to reattach it with cable clamp. (threaded metal sleeve with a hole in it, put the cable throught the hole and clamp it down with a screw)

3. You could rig up a new cable using a bicycle brake cable.

Thats what I remember from the post. So if you got some time and some mechanical skills you could probably fix it for a few bucks.

thanks for the reply. So how do I go about getting into this seat? Do you do most of it from under the seat? I can't see any way to take the upholstery off...

You have to remove the seat and then the seat back. The upholstery is "clipped" together at the bottom of the seat back.

Mine broke and its not the cable, its the plastic lumbar mechanism is cracked and broken. I'm too lazy to fix it.
