Steering Box
I have a 91 250 In the last year the seal on the bottom of the steering box has popped out 3 times I have checked and cleaned out the groove that the spring clip goes into It seems like it is building up to much pres. and popping it out? has any body had this problem before? If so, could you please tell me how you fixed it. DRIVEN ME INSANE!!!! thanks

The box is probably worn out and it is leaking pressure thru that bushing and to the seal, try totally cleaning it off with carb cleaner. Witt no oil residue and use locktight preferably red on the outside of the seal and install it. let it sit overnigth and if it stillc omes out. you have a bigger problem than just a seal.......

I had this problem in the shop when i had my business. It was a 74 ford ltd and i put two seals in it and they popped. The seals i used were cheaper federated and the third seal i used was a quality seal( a borg warner) i believe and it then worked fine and lasted. The cheaper replacement seals were not thick enough material.
