Brake Rotors Seized
Brake Rotors Seized
I have a 99 Navigator and had a problem with the rotors being seized to the hub. I noticed it was a problem for alot of people after looking online. I just joined this site, so I figured I'd post my experience with it on here. My father and I tried to pull it off a number of ways. We used alot of PB Blaster and other penetrating oils repeatedly, hitting with hammers of all sorts and everything. We decided that instead of really messing something up, we'd take the whole hub off. It wasn't but like 3 more bolts to get it off anyways. But boy they were really torqued down!!! We first thought we'd take the frozen rotor/hub to a machine shop and get it pressed off, however, being late on a saturday afternoon, no machine shops open. Then we started looking for someone with a sedaline torch to give it a shot. Didn't have luck finding anyone to do that either. Believe it or not, here's what we did:
We cut to the center of the wheel as close to the hub as we could using a SAWZALL!!! I know everyone doesn't have one, but you could possibly rent one really cheap probably. It took about 1 1/2 blades to cut through on each side to form 2 semi-circles. But it cut them quick. Once we had the two slits, we put a chisel on the crack and with one whack of a hammer, it broke free very easily!!! Rotors were only 35 a piece at the local autoparts store so there was no point in turning the old ones anyways. So if you're in a jam, maybe this will help you out a little.

stuck rotors
Thanks for tip; will use it next time. 1995 Mitsu Eclipse. Removed steering knuckle and then soaked hub and rotor for days in PB and oil. Used pullers and heat; no way. blocked up rotor and hit center hub with 20 lb sledge. Still no go. Destroyed everything and paid $150 each for hubs from dealer and $50 for rotors (2).
I have a "00" F-150 Ext Cab 4dr 4X4. The front rotors started to warp. They were also seized to the hub. I had already purchased the new rotors so I figured, what the hell. My buddy and I started smaking the rotors only with 10lb sledges, I sat in front of the rotor, he sat in back and we took turns wacking @ the rotor (in a back and forth motion like two men driving in a stake with sledges). They came off and with no damage to the hubs.
As I stated though, we ONLY wacked on the outer part of the rotors in a back and forth motion till they released.
I then spoke to the Ford® dealership and they told me that thats usually how they do it.
Each rotor took about 20 min. to remove .
<----- and there was a lot of that going on too.
