Motor trend is just an advertising plateform, pure and simple. I cancelled my subscription to that a LONG time ago, it has no technical knowledge in it at all. One day i was reading it and i just started thinking....you know they never say any car is "bad". THey'll quibble about it not having enough cup holders and not enough cargo space, but they'll never say that they disliked the car. To me that seems way to biased.
As a side note, why does just about every car get bashed for not having enough cargo space?? I remember they would say that about the camaro, corvette, mustang, etc. Like who's buying the thing to haul stuff around??
I had the sales manager at a local dealer tell me hear that the new F150 feels gutless, but really isn't. It's in the noise supression in the cab, and the better ride.
don't put so much stock in a magazine, after all who do you think pay's them for placing add's. nissan's rep is getting better they make a fine vehicle but i still love my ford and thats what it's all about to me.
Originally posted by 1956MarkII Did anyone read the article? Their biggest gripe with the F-150 was a lack of power, and that's to be expected from Car & Driver. Their other complaints were trivial, to say the least (they didn't like the reverse-sensing system, for crying out loud). Hey, if their criticisms lead to a better F-150, then I'm all for it.
And did anyone read the article on the Dodge Ram SRT-10? Freakin' hilarious! You can't beat C&D for their sense of humor! Then again, maybe I'm partial 'cause I don't live too far from Brock Yates- his Cannonball Run Pub is great! And don't you hate people that drop names all the time? As I was saying to Robert Redford and Tom Cruise just the other day......
Tell Tom Dono said hello and to shave off that mustache, people are confusing me for him - until I stand up.
Dono
Maybe it will make the manufactures stand and take notice. Compition is good for all of us. Now that the Japanese have decided to get into the full size truck market we will see some real changes that should be good for everyone. Although I am a Ford lover, I still think that having more than one manufactrer working the same market is a good thing. By the way that doesn't include Chebby, they done burned me once. Any you know the saying on that one..
I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion and after all, it's just a magazine. The problem with Datsun is that the profits from the sales of them don't stay in America. From what I've seen so far there are few on the road in my area. Datsun is a company that seems to struggle to win over new customers; this was further aggrivated about 20 years ago when they changed the name to Nissan (sounds similar to a company that makes cup-o-soup, ). I could be wrong, but I really would not expect them to grab much of the truck market; their cars are not successful in doing so no matter how hard they try. Time will only tell.

I dont see how u can say this, considering the import (nissan, toyota) mini trucks can last for ever. My friend has a 94 nissan truck, that thing just rolled over 210k miles. The only problem he has ever had was his headlight switch went bad.

From all of the ones that I have seen around here, the motor might last that long, but the body sure doesn't last that long. All of the ones that I have seen are usually full of rust and smoke really bad. I guess it depends on how well you take care of your vehicle depends on how long it will last. One of my uncles has an older Toyota 4X4 that is mostly garage kept and it runs and looks real good. Two of my aunts have Nissan trucks. One is a 2wd and the other is a 4X4. Neither one of them have been great trucks. The one with the 2wd is always having problems with her truck and is always having something replaced on it. The 4X4 runs good, but I would not call it a great truck.
As far as the Titan, everybody is making judgements on it already and it has just come out. Nobody knows how good of a truck it will be. Everyone is basing their opinion on looks and by the numbers that are given. I am going to wait until they are out and on the road and have a chance to see what they can do before I will say whether or not I like them. Just because one truck is rated over another does not mean that the one that did not make it was bad. It just means that they like the other one better.

Hate to remind you but every year people make "judgements" on new models. Those just aren't out of the blue. They are based on roadtests and mfr information etc. No one ever knows how good a truck will be. I purchased a Ford truck based on other people's experiences and opinions--we all do. It's a leap of faith. And remember that just because one truck is rater higher than the other doesn't make it the best one for you.
