Re-License to change GVWR & GCWR
I saw an F-350 CC DRW towing a gooseneck tri-axle car carrier. It had at least 3 cars, or maybe 4 on the deck. The F350s rear end was squatting low with all the weight on the hitch. When I passed it, the truck had a DOT# and said GCWR 38,000 lbs.
How is the GCWR determined when registering a truck with the DOT?

You go to DOL and tell them you are going to use the truck Commerically and you want a heavier rating. 38k rating costs A LOT. They tried to change it to 12k my truck even though it is registered at 10k and always has been. In my state, they register your truck by using 150% of the trucks empty weight.

Something to consider, if you go over 26,000 you have to get a CDL to drive it. 26,001 requires a Class B CDL. Hard test, drug test, physical exam, and more dollars per year. Also you will have to run a log book, pay fuel taxes, highway use taxes for all the states you run in. And you better go to the DOT (Department of Transportation) not DOL (Department of Labor)

Hey Colossus, im from pa. my trucks an f350 cc drw and i've been pulling a 16k gneck quite often lately. I want to keep it legal and stay away from DOT fines, but when i went to 3 tag and title places told them i wanted a combined(dual) class 8 registration
no one could tell me what i had to do. Maybe you have some info?
