Quick question, here are the symptons. Truck on, foot on brake, truck in (D)rive.... and it idles VERY rough and at around 500 rpm's. When i take it out of D and put it in (N)eutral, it acts normal and fine. Could it be a bad brake booster or vaccuum, or is it an EGR valve getting sticky problem? It only stalls or comes close to stalling when its in Drive and at a stand still. If anyone can help me out, it would be great.
Have someone check the TPS-Throttle Position Sensor and or the IAC-Idle Air Control. These are very common parts that go out after time. THe EGR valve is also a common part as well.Good Luck.
yea, sorry i forgot to mention what vehicle. I meant the 92 explorer. you mean i really dont have an egr valve? I had a mechanic suggest it be looked at, granted he is not a ford specific tech, but he knows his other stuff. as for the tps, where is it located so i can check it itself.
EGR's come and go. '91 and '92 didn't, then from '93 (I think) on, they put an EGR on it.
TPS is mounted right on the throttle body, where it can most effectively measure throttle plate position. Has three wires coming out of it.
