My brakes work great (after replacing my master cylinder), but the pedal hangs down towards the floor so far that I have to hold it up with a bungee cord wrapped around the steering column to keep the brake light switch turned off. Is there some kind of way to adjust the pedal upward that I'm missing?
I actually fixed the problem by putting a little hex screw in the stoplight switch plunger. I think the problem may have been that the barrel on the switch was too short.
Shouldn't cause a problem with something else that was working before. If all you changed was the M/C and now the pedal doesn't come back correctly, then there is something wrong. The pedal should return to the original position. If not, then something has changed. I would check that the rod is adjusted properly and make sure that the pedal returns all the way to the stop.
Something isn't right. If it worked before, I would assume it's the master cyl. The pressure from the master is what pushes the pedal back up. Take it back and get another one...
Are we talking about a drop of an inch or so or is the pedal staying closer to the floorboards? There is "supposed" to be a nut on the housing of the brake light switch itself that also acts as the adjuster. I've had them shake completely off switches before, so it's not surprising if it's gone. Simple enough nut to find in a boneyard.
I agree with you guys about the master cyl. I'm going to take it back this weekend, because the hex screw i put in just served to, after about a week, cause the stoplight switch to fail.
I was not aware that there was originally a nut on the switch housing. Mine is missing.
