02' F-350 PSD, Electrical Problem

HELP! I'm a first time PSD owner converted from Chevy. I have 8500 miles on my 4 month old 02 F-350 PSD. The most recent problem I've encountered is my truck was completely dead Monday morning. Batteries were completely dead. NO, I didn't leave anything on. The shop is telling my the truck has a draw somewhere, but they will need it for a few days. :-( Needless to say, I'm extremely frustrated. I was actually due to take it back to the shop for the engine light being on for the second time in two weeks, then it totally died.

Any helpfull comments would be appreciated. I would really like to hear from Ken Payne.

Bob

Coolbreeze !
Sorry to hear about your problems!
I been there with frustrating problems.

Does the ford dealer have it right now?
you said you had an service eng light on ,twice ,how did you remedy the light the first time? did dealer reset it and get the codes?
If so what were the codes.

What model superduty is it ?
Did you have to jump it to get it started?
Were the bateries chkd for bad cells, I know the truck is new but stranger things have happened.
Have you had alot of rain where you live ?
was your truck connected to a trailer/or travel trailer while parked?
when was the last time you ran it prior to Mon.am?
Just looking for a time frame in which your batteries went dead in.

Let us know the outcome!
Welcome to FTE by The way!
Rich

Hello Rich, and thanks for replying! I have an 02' F-350 Crew,LB, 4x4 Lariat (8500 miles). The first engine light cleard itself before I made it to the dealer. However, the code on was on the #5 glo-plug circuit. The dealer cleard it and said bring it back if it comes on again. Two weeks later it came on. They scheduled me in for a week later and then there computer broke on the day I was to bring it in. That was last week. Monday Morning it was totally dead. I had it towed to another dealer within a few hours. (suposedly a more repitable dealer). They called me yesterday to tell there is a deffinite draw on the system, but they don't know what the problem is as of yet.

No rain in central california as long as I've owned it to speak of. No trailer was hooked up to it. No mod's to the truck at all to date. The truck runs every day. I last ran it the evening before with no indication of a problem with exception to the engine light.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Sep-02 AT 02:11 PM (EST)]This a wild guess at the problem being the glow plug control module or
glow plug relay staying on,draining the batteries. Its called the gpcm module

They may have already eliminated it, but ask maybe

Rich

I'd also cut them a bit of slack. Ever tried to hunt down an "unauthorized" draw on a truck's electrical system or any system for that matter! No thanks! I'd rather pee in an electrical outlet!

mater of fact I have Monsta ! ''''
start by taking all fuses out /putting them in one by one.with amp probe between positive terminal and the battery
With todays testers and computers this problem should not be to hard!!!!

I won't pee into an electrical outlet i'll let you do that!!!

Hey Gang! I just got off the phone with the dealer. They found the glo-plug relay to be defective. Number 5 tower (something to that affect)was stuck on. They are replacing the batteries and the relay. Also, there reprogramming with the latest update. I guess my truck didn't have the latest and greatest, but does now. As I understand it, one of the features is the computer will dissable the relay if it ever malfunctions again.

Thank you again for your comments and support. This is a great site to browse and chat.

Looking forward to many good years of service,
