How do you feel when.......

...someone sees an old truck in various states of disrepair and they say "get a load of that hunk of *hit!" Honestly, Ive heard derogatory comments like that directed towards my vehicles. Personally, it pisses me off. EXCUSE ME for not driving a brand new lexus or a new 2002 FORD; you know, the kind that doesnt rust? (because of the plastic)
It just really irates me at the mentality that some people today possess. Some of us CHOOSE to drive older vintage iron. For others, maybe that is all they can afford to drive. Nonetheless, I am curious to how you folks would respond to nasty comments like that. I just usually stop, stare and listen because idiots like that arent worth wasting my breath on! OLD FORDS RULE!!!

regards
BEN

I agree FN. Kinda reminds my of my car. There are a couple in my neighbor hood. I call them the "workin' man's truck". Nothing wrong with honest dirt. But I have seen some in really bad shape. Blowing smoke, coughing, spiting, bald tires, not a stright piece of metal on it. Like ready to fall apart on the road. I don't stay begind them for long. I think to myself, it's time.

I think DD hit it on the nose. Old vehicles well maintained and reasonably clean are nothing to turn anyone's nose up at. Personally I prefer older vehicles (my wife disagrees totally, is much happier with her new car). To each their own. To me there is nothing better looking than an older car or truck that has been well cared for and kept looking nice. Anybody with money (or credit) can buy a new vehicle. It takes a lot of work and love to maintain an older one.

my bronco is ugly and i bought it BECAUSE it was ugly! i love to see these folks with 'spankin new 4x4's with leather, power everything and computers tryin not to get their shoes dirty cuz they dont want to mess up the carpet. its even better when these goof ***** try to take their machines off road. or when they think that just because they have a 4x4, they can drive 80mph on a road coverd in ice and snow. i just wave at them as i pass by while they are in a ditch or spun out in the median.

dont worry about what people say about your truck, chances are that one of these days their gonna need someone like us to change their tire or show them how to put oil in their cars.

I can't say I take particularly good care of my old truck, but it is a work truck and I use it as such. A nicely-kept older vehicle catches my eye, but the new vehicles are ho-hum. I see them and think, "Nice truck, glad I'm not paying for it."

I think both the attitutes about Old trucks addressed in this topic, and the attitute about new ones (Icelander) are less than helpful. In fact, less attitude on everybody's part would make the country (or at least this site) a better place.

first of all, let me welcome you to FTE. second, the "attitude" anyone diplays on this site has NOTHING to do with the county and has everything to do with folks voicing their opinions or making their comments known. oh, wait.....isnt that what america is all about? why dont you look for "less attitude" in a different country or on a different site. let me guess......you've never owned an old truck and probably dont know how to change a tire or your oil. youre one of those people who say "change my OWN tire...no, thats what AAA is for"

its people like you that make people like me mad.

everyone is entitled to there own opinions. i agree with icelander, cause in winnipeg a lot of people have f250's, f350's 4x4 crewcab/supercab, excursions, expeditiosn and they never go on gravel with them. they drive them to school and to work.

i get a lot of "heat" about my truck when i park, or they park next to me, because it's old and kinda rusty, and sometimes the choke will make it stall. but hey, i can do w/e i need to in my driveway without a towtruck.

i like the older cars and trucks. aint no one changin my mind about that

Well, I would defend that right of anyone on this site to say whatever they like. Sorry that you don't think that civility has any place here (or anywhere).

civility? are you kidding me? threads get locked in here because folks call eachother stupid or ignorant. ive heard much worse out in the "real" world. this site may not be up to your "high brow" standards but i think most of us like it just the way it is.

like i said befor......and these are just my words....you can go and find "less attitude" and more "civility" somewhere else. if you want to come to a place where folks speak their minds, help eachother out and debate what really matters.......youre in the right place.
