dennis, im probably the only person here who gets the puffin joke and im not sure what you were trying to say in the begining of your post, but when you said" it is not how a person says something nor is it what they say, its how a person interprets it" i have to(respecfully) disagree. people can say alot and say nothing at all.
IMHO, the reason some people stick their noses up at these classics is because we live in a throw-away society. I love old Fords as well as new Fords. Some people can't stand the thought of anything over a certain age. They just want to throw it out and get a new one. I see this will buildings too. I believe we should preserve our historical structures. They simply can not be duplicated in new construction. Yet, some people have no problem in tearing an old building down so they can have a new building, even though architecturally it looks like crap.
And even for those who don't share our love of old Fords, they should atleast respect our opinions.

The first part was a diversion.
It didn't work though.
Aklavit is Danish
Lutefisk is all Scandinavia
Lefsa is Norwiegian
Puffin is Icelandic, as U know.
The idea was to try bring different ethnic grups together and have a Party.
Apparently I missed the mention of GROG & Beer to loosen people up.
Well the reason i started this thread is because last week, i had the cops out at my house. apparently a disgruntled neighbor called the authorities stating that MY truck was leaking a lil oil on the street. So about 3 cops came out and it got mighty heated. Here they were ranting and raving over this BS neighbor dispute when they could be doing something more productive.(yeah like hanging at the local D n D) It was then i heard, a young cop--might have been a rookie i dont know--said--'yeah its because of those old pieces of iron that we have environmental probs--and he pointed to the oil marks (not big by the way..)
I was dumbfounded and then i retorted "hey--its a public street and what is the difference if THAT HUNK OF IRON has a leak vs--the trash trucks that spew hydraulic oil on the street from time to time???
AMAZING the mentality some folks have towards old vehicles! PISSES me off sometimes! I know my neighbors hate em but u know what? if i have the funds, ill buy more---just to **** em off. I respect the environment and all but its idiots like that cop and my neighbor who attribute smog ect to the older cars---what about jets and industry???
i guess ill have to resign myself to the fact that i have anti-old car afficiandos in my development!
Whouawwwww...why cannot I have the chance to find, here in belgium, an old dirty truck...Youa re lucky guys, it's plenty of in your country...
Here we are obliged to buy new one and we have no parts to rebuild an old one !!! Lets people says what they want and don't care about. Be Ford cool, man, and drive your old monster.
Uh Oh! Now you did it....
He took his bat and ball, and doesn't want to play anymore...
I have a new truck, and an old Mustang. I've had a few older trucks, but I just wanted a change. I like them all. If I could stumble across a '75 or so Highboy...I'll be "older truckin'" again!

Sorry officer, I disagree. There are many things that contribute to any enviromental problems we might have. It's not just a few old vehicles that may be in bad shape. Factories, big rigs, aviation, industry, etc. We also have a crime problem. Would it be fair for me to blame the police for our crime problem? Should I blame you for liberal lawyers who get criminals off for some technicality? Judges who order a slap on the wrist and then turn them back loose on the street? Overcrowed prisons that have to release them because there isn't enough money for new prisons because our governer screwed up the budget? Just to name a few. Should I lay all the blame on you for our crime problems? No that wouldn't be fair would it? I appreciate the job you doing out there but I think your comment is way off base and out of line.
I get different comments from people (mainly men).
Driving your husband's truck today?
That's a big truck for a little lady like you.
my reply depends on my mood:
1. My hubby likes speed, I prefer torque.
2. At the running lights is 7', and I am 5'10, what makes me a little lady?
3. (A little attitude), Ya it's mine, it even has it's own built in vibrator (electric fuel pump with no shims, makes a loud vibrating noise throughout the chassis). Hahaha.
It flatters me that someone would THINK I am not enough MAN to drive a full size truck, let alone a 4x4. I get a kick when guys turn their head when they realize a woman's driving it. And I look back to say "you envy me". Hehehe.
Ahh,it doesn't matter what people think. We have all had our share of comments. What you drive, represents your personality, or your needs. Everyone has their preferences, I just prefer old steel!
1. 300-400 dollars a month (their car payment) invested in a good mutal fund for 30 years (the lenght of time they will be paying car payments-- come on you don't think they are going to keep their car when it is OLD do you?) comes out to over $4 million.
2. The environmental cost for your vehicle has been spent. You are conserving the environment by restoring and maintaining it.
3. Also you employ people by buying parts to maintain it.
4. Your truck is more environmentally friendly since it is mostly steel it can be recycled. Most plastic cannot.
5. SUV's (the vehicle of choice today) DO NOT and CANNOT get much better fuel economy than my old truck.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Jun-02 AT 03:59 PM (EST)]Older vehicles have their place as new vehicles do. I work on-call. If I were to rely on an old vehicle to get my work done and it failed, I could lose a customer. If a doctor had an old truck break down while he was being paged for an emergency, a patient could die. I have old and new. I have the new for the dependability and the old for fun. I don't complain about the old. If that is your choice or that is all you can afford, then thats the way is should be. You do, however, need to keep it safe, and unfortunately, a lot of the old vehicles are not safe. They are rolling death traps because of disrepair. Inoperable lights, leaking exhaust, broken windshields. When someone sees an older vehicle, that is probably what they are thinking-rolling bucket of disrepair. People don't understand why I pay $550 a month for my Excursion. I tell them about the many jobs it does. Then, they try to tell me how their '75 extended cab 6 cylinder 5 speed does the same job (sorry, not picking on anyones truck-just an example). It doesn't do the same job. My truck holds 8 comfortably while theirs holds 6 uncomfortably. Mine tows 12,000 lbs while theirs is lucky to pull 5,000. Mine gets 18 mpg (not when towing) and theirs get 12-14. Mine starts EVERY time. Theirs? Sometimes it's a crap shoot, isn't it? That is what I need, and there is no older vehicle that can do that.
I will not complain about someones old vehicle that is in good shape, but I see plenty of the "pieces of *****" rolling all around, and I try to stay clear.
I usually just run Bruin up to about seven grand and I can't hear them anymore. Once I get my new bumpers,(Trail Ready Road Armor Series), we'll see what's better. Plastic or metal. I'm guessing metal.
