Has anyone every had the passenger side bolt and bushings just dissappear? I have noticed more than once that these bolts are missing off of several f-150 and Expo style front ends. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement? Is this a Ford garage item?
I haven't had mine disappear, but I also haven't really looked. Prolly should.
You can get a bushing kit at Napa, or Autozone, or whatever your local parts store is. Or, you could replace it with a Hellwig 1" sway bar. It should make the truck more stable.
You can purchase a replacement swaybar end link from Napa, Auto Zone or Advance Auto for about $20. It will make a dramatic improvement in driveability. I put Energy suspension links on mine. I haven't had any problems to date. Over a year with these links on.
I replaced my front right and left bushing and bolt for $25 each from Ford dealer. I was getting an oil change and the mechanic called me in the bay to point the right side out to me. I ran over to Ford and picked up 2 of them. The bolt was sheared and rusted at the break, so I was driving around with it and didn't even know!
I replaced mine with another Ford replacement and that broke too. For LESS money, order a set of Energy Suspension urethane bushings and end links. They have been great for me. No more broken end links. The ONLY way to go.
Ditto all the comments made from others. There I am changing my front left shock and looking down and seeing the sway bar link broken off and hanging there. Got ripped off by the stealership parts dept. ($45.00) because I immediately addressed the problem. Searched this forum later and discovered link bolt breakage to be a common problem / reoccuring problem with Ford parts. Ordered Energy Suspension links, bushings, and sway bar mount bushings for less than $20.00, both sides, and improved the ride and hopefully reliability for the future. Anybody want any barely used Ford front link bolts / bushings for a 99?
Contacted Suspension Restoration Parts today. I was going to order a set of Energy Suspension’s sway bar links. The guy that I talked to asked what size sway bar I had. He said they are hearing there are several sizes (32mm, 35mm and 39mm). The Energy Susp. data says it’s a 35mm dia. I measured 33mm dia. on my 99, 4x4. That be as it may, what does this have to do with the links?
