i have a 1996 f-150 with a 300 i-6 engine, with a 5 speed manual trans. i recently bought a flowmaster 40 series muffler i had it installed with along with dual out exhaust pipe.
I like the way it sounds except for the fact that it kinda sounds like a ricer when the engine get into the higher end (when i shift).
when i cruise 35mph in 4th gear it sounds nice
i want to eliminate the ricer noise, and make it a little bit louder. what should i do im thinkin about a glasspack and removing a cat i just want some suggestions and experiences that other people have had with this. I really want this to sound bad *** what should i do?
Swap in a V8... Just kidding...
Every 6 cyl. I've heard with an aftermarket exhaust has sounded wierd. I'm not sure how to get it to sound like a V8.
Maybe go with a header that has 2 collectors (3 cylinders into each) then a true dual exhaust.
An easier route might be a resonator tip on your current exhaust.
I just did a full exhaust on my 90' 300 I-6. First without the headers, just the highflow cat and Dynomax turbo kit and it was good, kinda deep but it did sound a little " high pitched" at speed. I put a ste of Clifford shorty headers on it that gave it the rumble I was looking for. A six will always sound higher pitch. then an 8, but headers willmake a differance that is worth it.
indysodave will the resonator tips really work?
i am looking into some
i am also looking into headers
if the resonator makes it quieter but gives it that better tone ill do it
what is your suggestion
I used to have a 89 f150 with a 4.9. All i did was pipe it. (Cut the muffler out and put a piece of pipe in its place) It's cheap, and it didn't sound too bad for a big six.
i have a single outlet header on mine and its definatly not a v8 but it did take away the "RICER" sound and added the low rumber that i like alot. i have the summit 3" kit with a 50 series. power gains were worth it too. most noticable on the highway.
I had a 90 i 6 and all i did was cut the pipe as soon as it turned under the truck, got rid of all those dang converters, and installed a single inlet dual outlet 40 series flowy. it sounded great for a 6 and loud wasnt the word for it.
