I've got a 2000 Ranger 3.0L V6, Std trans. I replaced the EGR valve after CEL came on, and cleaned the vacuum line. After a few minutes of driving, the CEL came on, and a trip to Autozone for their diagnostic computer still said "EGR insufficient flow". What else should I be checking?
You probably need a new DPFE sensor. The code that you are getting is a common one, and the DPFE sensor is the culprit in a vast majority of cases. It is a very simple "do-it-yourself" project, they run about $50 or so at local parts stores (also can be called an "EGR Pressure Sensor" or something similar to that).
You can get more info on the DPFE by using the "Search" feature and going through some of the previous threads on the subject.
Just a quick update - the Autozone across the street from my office was out of the 'EGR pressure sensor' - they had it listed that way. AZ across town has it, I'll go there tomorrow. I stopped at Advance Auto on the way home, they don't have anything like this listed for a Ford Ranger - closest thing they had in their computer was an EGR position sensor, which didn't seem to be at all the same thing, judging by price and picture.
Looks like you folks were dead on. I finally got the EGR valve sensor yesterday, put in on. In about 50 miles of driving since, no CEL. The slight miss is gone. The valve clatter when accelerating in high gears seems to be much reduced too. Thanks for the excellent help!
