Bought a 04' 250 FX4 Lariat in Nov. Was averaging 15.8 mpg and ran perfect. Was driving home with the family (Christmas night) when she just quit. I had been on the interstate for 2 hours running 80 mph. The rpms started to roll back and the truck did not respond to gas input but the engine stayed at idle. The glow plug light also had come on. I pulled off on the side of the interstate and it immediately quit. When I went to restart the glowplug light would not go out and the cruise control light flickered rapidly. The door open tone was also beeping rapidly. I immediately thought electrical short. The truck would not even crank and I did not want to do more damage so I called Ford.
In Ford's defense they had a wrecker there in 90 minutes (it was Christmas night) and they towed it to a dealer in Birmingham. The only silver lining was that my wife was following me in our 99' Suburban (read Chevy) with 125,000 miles thats never broken down.
Now almost 2 weeks later the dealer who is working on it says they have no idea other than the Tech thinks its a "VERY DEEP ELECTRICAL PROBLEM". Needless to say I'm losing my patience on the $39,000 truck!
Has anyone heard of anything similar to this happening?
Does anyone know my rights to a free rental car?
Lastly, if this turns out to be a lemon will Ford buy it back (No, I'm not drinking)
My first Ford ever and up till this event I loved it, now......
