i have a 90 f350 cb with intermittent wipers. Previously the wipers would "freeze" especially on high, it seemed ot happen more when the truck was warm, and mostly int he winter (guessing the heater helping the issue?). Now the wipers do NOTHING, i replaced the switch to no avail. When the wipers are turned on, i can hear a faint and fast clickign comming form the dash. I was gogin to jsut trace the wires (which i wasnt' looking forward to) but then my 85 f-150 started freezing once in a while, so i figure it's a common ford malady that one of you geniouses may have figured out. or at least you could tell me where the rest of the wiper contrls are hidden onder the dash
the motor did occur to me, but it's teh fast clicking under the dash that gets me, though it seems to be on the drivers side. it sounds like a relay thats poorly grounded so as not to fully switch (i have had this problem with my alarms power door lock relays when a wire was loose)
i guess the motor is easy to diagnose, supply power direct form the batter and if it dont' work it's the motor, especially if i get power at the connector
Never tried. I would just hit the junkyard and buy a used wiper motor.
If one really wanted to I guess you could replace them. They had to get the brushes in there some how when new. Where would you buy the brushes? It may be harder to buy new brushes than replacing them. Then again I may not no where to look for them.
Hmmmm. I have a similar problem with the wiper, sort of. My slow spped wiper does not work, only the fast spped one works and only for when it first turn on. After a minute of two, it becomes real slow, like an intermitant wiper
I have the same problem with my 89. My wipers only work on the fast setting and when i turn them off they stop wherever they're at. I replaced the swithed to no avail and my wiper motors are a real pain to get to, so i'm just dealing with it for now. If anyone has a suggestion i would greatly appreciate it.
i'd suggest not simply dealign with it. thats the thing that i did, TRUST ME, it SUCKS BAD driving around (especialyl at night) int eh rain with no wipers.
Ok i replaced teh wiper motor, that fixed it. but ohh my god, i hate ford for how they install the wiper motors!! you have to remove the wiper arms then remove the body pannel below them, then remove the metal plate hte wiper motor is attached to then remove the wipers form the motor then remove the motor
did i forget to mention that your most likely gunna wreck your antenna trying to get this out?
